Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Benfica's Hungarian international striker Miklos Feher has died after collapsing during a game on Sunday.
Feher suffered a heart attack during the league game between Benfica and Vitoria Guimaraes.

The 24-year-old was stretchered off the pitch and brought to hospital after he collapsed unconscious.

The game was stopped for 15 minutes as team doctors tried to resuscitate the player but he later died in hospital.

Damn, thats terrible. I think there should be investigations into why players are dying so young. First Marc-Vivien Foe and now Miklos Feher. There has got to be something done about it.

Come on guys are you really serious. Don't get me wrong i feel very sorry for those footaballers familys and it's a tragedy. But considering the amount of pressure both physically and mentally footballers are under these days and considering their population it's hardly surprising that 2 suffer heart attacks.
No one is ever surpriesd when a footie manager gets a heart attack .
I know players are super fit but super fit people get heart attacks too - it may be due to family history or heart diease

I'd have to go along with egan007. This is certainly horrible news but lets not get carried away. It should be a lot more common in super fit athletes than it is. These people put so much pressure on there hears it is amazing that there isn't more that two cases to date.

Did you know that if a cyclist intends to retire he actuall needs to gradually make himself unfit. These guys are so fit that if they just quit the sport without gradually decreasing their fitness level they run the risk of Heart Attacks and Strokes, regardless of age.

There may well be family history but (whisper it) it could also be an indicator of drug abuse not cocaine rather
the stuff that dodgy doctors will supply you with for a price...just a thought.

    Mike.

This is tragic. egan007 hit the nail on the head, but i've never heard of a manager in his 20's getting a heart attack.

because someone in their 20's are not qualified enough to be a manager

Drugs or no drugs I think its a disgrace that jornalists and media continue to show pictures of the poor guy on Television and in the papers. Fair enough show some clips of him scoring a goal or pictures of him from a game ago but not pictures of him dying. Even though he is in the media eye doesn't give these scumbags the right broadcast it all over the world.

They did the same thing when Foe died, Showed him getting stretchered of the pitch after he had died. It's a disgrace. Have some respect for their families and friends.

Thats really freaky to see...what was the cause of marc vivien foes death and what is this guys cause? They cant just say heart attack...there has to be more.

That is not my point. My point is, if something seems wrong with the player before a match then precautions should be taken. That is why teams have medical staff.

If so why was he playing in the game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,981 ✭✭✭Big Ears

he told the coaches he was ok to play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 553 ✭✭✭phenom

I just thought they might do some test on him.

Foe was found to suffer from hyperthropic-cardiomyopethy (or HCM)... I can't even spell it and I have it!

About 1 in 500 people have it to one degree or another, it's a thickening of the heart wall that creates an unusual beat and in severe cases can cause discomfort and chest pain. Most fit people would not even realise they have it as their fitness makes detection unlikely... the problem with it is that if the heart screws up and the valves don't close properly (due to disruption or turbulence in blood flow caused by over large heart wall) the heart then cannot right itself properly, and you die...

Foe had it, that footaball manager who's kid died (was it Trevor Frances? Terry Yorath??) had it and I wouldn't be surprised if Fehrer had it either.

    Very sad.

Benfica have been accused by former players of forcing them to take steriods, only last summer one of thier underage players quit the club and claimed it was because he was told he had to take them

A cleaner at a hotel they use in Lisbon said she found syringes in the rooms of several players, and there have been several player on thier book test positive over the last few years...

If it looks like a fish, and smells like a fish, my bet is that it's a fish.
    I hope I'm wrong though.
