Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Juan Pablo Angel is out of tommorrows semi-final 2nd leg

Apparently he picked up a leg injury in last weeks game.

We've to win by 3 goals without our star-man.

O'Leary will play a 4-3-3 so it'll be Dublin & Vassell up front with either Allback or Crouch.

    We're up shít creek now!

...... still though, against all odds - that's how heros are made. If we can apply the pressure for 90 mins we could get a penno, maybe a few free kicks around the box...???

    Mellberg

    Hendrie

I think they have even more problems... 25 million euro loss within the last 6 months (up to 31st of November), and they didn`t sign any players. Where do they take the money from? If it would be a normal company, banks would already have withdrawn all credits...

The actual operaing loss was £5.1 million. The rest of the loss was to do with amortisation of player contracts (the decling sell-on value of a player according to the decreasing length of time left on their contract) e.g. Angel & Barry - our 2 of our most valuable assets - only have 18 months remaining on their current contracts.

Also bear in mind that Alan Wright, Ian Taylor, Joey Gudjohssen, Leonhardson, Kachloul, Balaban, Alpay, Staunton, Kinsella & Enckleman have left the club in that time. Those players no longer appear as 'fixed assets' on the balance sheet.

Still though, the results are a lot worse then people expected and the VFC (Villa Fans Combined) who are now basically a pressure group trying to force change at boardroom level at the club, are using this as more ammo to try get rid of Doug.

Even with those losses though. The club are still in a much healthier position than every other premiership club bar Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and - of all people - Birmingham City!, so it's not all that bad. Doug Ellis even unveiled plans at the last AGM to fill in the corners of the North Stand - a project estimated to cost over £8 million!, so there's money there - somewhere. Our contracts with Diadora and Rover come to an end this summer too, so there'll be a cash injection from those new deals too. If we can get Angel & Barry to sign new contracts, next years figures should look much, much better.

The real test for Doug will come in the summer when O'Leary is left with a squad of 14 players. Apart from the 10 players who've already left the club, another 5 are out of contract at the end of the season. That means 15 players will have left since O'Leary took over, with only 2 - Sorenson & McCann - coming in.

If O'Leary doesn't get some serious money to bolster the squad in the summer, there's a chance he'll walk away. His mission for this season was/is to keep us up. He's already proving he's not just a chequebook manager, and there'll be a few other Premiership clubs with managerial vacanices early in the next season. If he's left with a sub standard squad for a 2nd term he could be tempted by a club offering money to spend. Who wouldn't?

Basically we need 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and another decent striker. That's 5 players. Decent players. They'll cost £3-4 million each minimum, a bit more for a decent hitman, so we're lookin at least £15 million.

    Doug better cough up.

Doug ellis publicly stated at the AGM that he would make at least 8 million available for next summer.with transfer costs low we should get a few good deals. izzet and radzinski could be available for a knockdown price. I wonder if there`s any chance of getting Ehigou back. hes having a great season at the riverside.

with all the players that have left Alan Wright, Ian Taylor, Joey Gudjohssen, Leonhardson, Kachloul,Balaban, Alpay, Staunton, Kinsella & Enckleman. Hadji and kachloul should be gone soon as well. we should save at least 5million on wages. compared to last season. DOL will do a good job at villa park if the chairman is willing to show enough faith in the managers abilities.
