got this from my netsoc today in college:

    Hello,
you are receiving this e-mail because you have compressed music
files on your homepage. We have had to impose a blanket ban on all
compressed music files (*.mp3, *.ra, *.wma) because of a second
complaint from the IMRO. These complaints jepordise the future of Netsoc
as a whole. We encourage people to host compressed music files with us
to which they have an applicable liscence or are the copyright holder
(eg your song / your friends band's songs - with his/her permission).
If you believe the music on your homepage is legal please email
*****@******.ie and we will be more than happy to unblock it for you.

    Yours
    ********* ********

I'm not blaming netsoc at all, but have the IMRO nothing better to do than muscle in on small things like this?
BTW music was a friends :p

Wonder where they stand on .ogg files? :)

Were the permissions sloppy on the files in question or were they only readable/executable by you?

IMRO complained to HEANet. It's HEANet that have managed to bungle it a bit by whinging any time they see /any/ mp3 file being sent acros the network. UL Skynet had hassle with them when a guy was sharing mp3s of his own music on the server. They should have told them to go jump in this specific case but for some inane reason they didn't.
