Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ronaldo is the best youngster in the world because he plays for manu - what more reason is needed?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,438 ✭✭✭TwoShedsJackson

ronaldo is the best in the world simply because we know what he can do and nobody can stop him.

Even by your standards smemon, that's the stupidest thing I've ever seen on this board.

'Ronaldo is the best in the world because he plays for Man U and I've heard of him, therefore there can be no better player in the world anywhere'

He's stopped 98% of the time by a defender either tackling him or elbowing him, it doesn't get much easier to stop than that.

Kaka is the best player on that list whom I have seen play, as a playmaker forward he's one of the best around.

exactly, elbowing him, taking him out of the game illegally! because he's too difficult to challenge. okocha has tricks but no pace or speed. also, he's 30 which im sure isnt classed as 'young' for a footballer.

ronaldo is the king of stepovers, like beckham with freekicks, he has them mastered to the point that the opposition can't do anything about it. plus he's an entertainer, every side should have one. out of this list i'd take ronaldo.

No Okocha isn't young, but you said any player in the world not any young player in the world.

what about a few of these stars

    Robinho
    Carlos Alberto
    Van Persie
    Martins
    Quaresma
    Cavenaghi
    sneijder

well my mistake, i meant any young player in the world. there'd be dozens of footballers i'd pick abve ronaldo believe me. as for a young player however, (u-20) i'd take ronaldo.

I'm surprised man U didn't go for Ricardo Quaresma. He looks to be a class act and they do have that link with Sporting Lisbon!

Judging by the poll i'd say most posters to this forum read THE SUN too much and watch Sky Sports too much

well if they did watch Sky Sports a bit more, Fernando Torres would be way in front. Unbelievable player.

  • Registered Users Posts: 598 ✭✭✭[DF]Lenny

I meant about Ronaldo.Torres is class but I think Van Der Vaart is right up there and Chiuvu playing for Roma(if hes still young enough to qualify)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

Don't ask me why I'm bumping this but can't believe it's almost 4 years old. Interesting to see which players live up to potential.
    Kaká 14 24.56%
    Reyes 9 15.79%
    Fernando Torres 6 10.53%
    C-Ronando 16 28.07%
Maxi Lopez (Goal scoring God at river plate) 2 3.51%
    Andrés Nicolas D'Alessandro 3 5.26%
Ger O'Brien (haha, he is a legend in athlone) 7 12.28%
Lopez, Reyes, Le Tallec, D'Alessandro, Mads Timm, Adriano, Milner, Joaquin, Postiga, Martins named in this thread could have all done a lot better.

Good shouts with Fabregas, Diego, Van Persie, Sneijder...

    Oh great

    Another Dunphy worshiper

    yaaaaaaaawn

EDIT, only just realised that post is from 2004 :D

was thinking a few of those players on the poll were old

Interesting that there was no mention of Messi

He has made one hell of an impact considering no-one heard of him back in 2004

I was making the point of how short a time a player can be regarded as one of the best in the world in such a short period of time

It can be as quick as 1 game at times. Remember the hype around Rooney after he scored the volley against Arsenal?

He was hyped as potential, not made out to be the best

no cesc? is this a joke? what sort of an idiot would have a discussion about the best young players in the world and not mention the current most infleuntial midfielder in the world.
    14 league games played
    6 goals
    10 assists

    'nuff said

    Interesting thread.

It's funny how players develop. Four years ago, the likes of Ronaldo, Torres, Kaka, Fabregas, Diego and Van Persie were spoken of in the same breath as James Milner, Reyes, D'Allessandro, Sinama Pongolle and Freddie Adu. Just shows how impressive it really is for people like Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson to find young players and bring them through. Well, that or boards.ie are idiots.

Well, I predicted Rooney would make it, so I'm happy :)

The fact that ronaldo is winning this poll tells you all you need to know about the quality and knowledge of this board.

LOL :D This guy for Ireland U-21 manager

Actually didnt realise this was an ancient thread until I came to a post that stated Wayne Rooney had done FA for Everton this season and was notching up his England record against Lienchteinstein, i was like....eh, wtf? :p (although I was intiially thinking "I could have sworn Rooney, Ronaldo, Kaka and Torres are older than I am" (21)

Fair play to whoever in this thread spotted Fabregas when he was 7 years old  (well, add 10, but still, that is some bit of Brucie  )

There's no way Milner is the best young player in the Premiership. Rooney is streets ahead of him, as is Jermaine Pennant, and even Peter Whittingham.

    Hahahaha wow Peter Whittingham.

Denilson in two/three years - As good as Fabregas.

Good shout, I would also include Anderson aswell now.

    Benzema & Ben Arfa.

Benzema the best finisher in the world at the moment.

Ben Arfa most complete winger in the world.

J.Navas is also a very good young player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Anderson maybe, if he learns to cop himself on, stop waving invisible yellow cards (Arsenal and Everton) and rolling around like he has been shot (Arsenal).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

lol and lol for the Ben Afra and Benzema, who would get pissed on from a high from Ronaldo/Messi and Ruud/Eto respectively.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Said it since before Anderson was even signed...He is going to be the best player in the world one day...he has the most potential of any player in the United squad...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

er, he was just saying they are good young players...

edit: in a highly exagerratory manner!

I think the soccer board has ripped a hole in the space/time continuum.

Rodney Marsh getting sacked for the tsunami joke?

Maxi Lopez being hyped as the next great thing?

    It's fun really :)

It is when you start dressing up in suits for cup finals and storming out of the room when the media ask questions you don't like :(
