Just wondering if anyone else is having problems connecting to the Apple site? I am with Clicksilver and I was wondering if the problem is UTV related or a more general one. Several other Clicksilver uses have reported similar problems connecting to the Apple site

At work at the moment - I'll check it out on my UTV BB at home later.

It's UTV only, I've tried the site on eircom BB and on IOL dial-up and it worked fine, but it seems to only work in spurts with UTV.
Has been like this with apple.com for over a week.

Discussion about this has been going on in the UTV newsgroup, in case you didn't know.

Yeah I actually started the discussion but I thought it might be an idea to post here to get feedback from users of other ISPs.

Post this in the newsgroup - it might help them out:

Traceroute to apple.com from UTV BB:

    Starting trace - Jan 29, 2004 21:21:30
    Tracing to www.apple.com [17.112.152.32]....
    Hops IP Address RTT(ms)
    1 x.x.x.x 1 private address
    2 195.218.116.25 39
    3 195.218.116.1 37
    4 195.218.126.174 37
    5 195.218.112.195 47
    6 195.92.55.134 57
    7 195.50.116.121 52

    20 TIMED OUT
    21 TIMED OUT
    22 TIMED OUT
    23 TIMED OUT
    24 TIMED OUT
etc etc - I went to 60 hops without result.

    Traceroute to apple.com from eircom.net(dial-up):

    Starting trace - Jan 29, 2004 19:20:04
    Tracing to www.apple.com [17.254.0.91]....
    Hops IP Address RTT(ms)
    1 159.134.238.173 141
    2 159.134.248.90 141
    3 159.134.126.221 136
    4 159.134.191.110 237
    5 12.118.100.5 236
    6 12.123.3.90 266
    7 12.122.10.2 254
    8 12.122.10.6 294
    9 12.123.221.17 286
    10 12.118.116.10 288
    11 TIMED OUT
    12 TIMED OUT
    13 TIMED OUT
    14 17.254.0.91 290
    Host reached

Crucial difference (in case my bold underlining didn't point it out) - the resolved IP addresses do not match.

Hops 14/15 in the UTV trace are the same as hops 7/8 in the Eircom trace, and you would expect everything after that to be the same in both, regardless of the source.

Don't ask me what all this means - hopefully someone in UTV does.

Change your proxy as detailed in IIU, use 195.218.116.8 port 80 as proxy.
    All is fine now.

UTV seem to have a lot of DNS f*ck ups like this. Having said that, i'm on utv free dial up the past few days with no problems accessing apple.com

There was once a time when you would never have let such words cross you lips or should I say keyboard :)

the proxy change seems to have fixed it thanks!:)
