Jar files not working on mobile devices?

I have a very basic MIDP2.0 samples done (tinkering).

I compiled them, signed then, proguarded them. Tested it via the emulator (both running and OTA) and it all worked fine.

Gave it to a friend to test on his device and it says the jar is invalid version.

I am guessing I need to recompile under a compiler for the phone? I need to dig one out but does anyone know if this is the case? My midlet is MIDP2.0 compatible.

Only other thing I could think of is the device is not allowing it to install because it is requesting for access the device has been set to disallow (HTTP)? Not sure if that is the issue or not.

anyone done this sort of thing before? Is there anything else I might be missing?
