I dont know how you can say Question 9 is piss easy. I despise hydrostatics. Nearly as bad as statics. Question 10 - i can rarely remember the difference between integration and differentiation, so im pretty fecked with that one. Impressed with your 5 question A2 though. Weve done the course twice so far, just have SHM and circular to revise for the second time - that shouild be my 7th question, so im hoping it goes well. This year's been very strange for me - cant get down to study at all, cant listen in class, so im worse at applied right now than i was last summer. Which is not a good thing at all.

"Show that....." questions are much easier than "find X" questions, as you know exacctly whether you're right or wrong as sson as you finish that question.

    My topics of choice are:
    S.H.M.
    Rigid Body Rotation
    Linear Motion
    Relative Velocity
    Impacts and Collisions
    Statics

We have yet to finsih SHM and we haven't done the integration question yet, but i'm thinking its not gonna be do bad. (if i wrote the wrong topic names, its cos i'm an idiot :p)

Maybe youre right about the "Show that" vs "Find" thing - i just always thought that the theory needed for the "show that"s was always more difficult than the "find" questions.
If you ever need more past papers I've got them going back to 1984 so far i can scan some and send if anybody needs more.

So, any chance of people actually posting their mocks?

I think anybody who is trying to find out what's on the mocks is kidding themselves. Your grades may look higher now but come the real thing you could be in for a shock when theres no grinds teacher to tell you. Try not to think so short term about these things and take the mocks for what it is, a chance to see where your weaknesses lie.

Roller Toaster I was just wondering if you or anyone else still had the biology exam, I did mine last tuesday, so it would be no help to me now. Wish I had seen the paper beforehand though, then I wouldn't have messed up so bad.

Actually, the only reason i wanted the Applied Maths mock papers was because im doing it as an eight subject on my own - we dont do it in our school so they wont order a mock paper for me. If anybody has it, id be grateful for a copy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

daveyjoe- you had to do the questions on the paper so no one will have them.

jackwalli- you don't need mock papers if you have the past exam papers, theres like 20 papers there to do and anyway I found the mock papers far harder/different to the actually department papers.

Mutant Fruit- Why don't I see projectiles down on that list?? Such a beautiful question, I simply love projectiles, mmmmmmmmmmmm.

I don't understand what you mean by that. Anyway this is going a bit off-topic, perhaps I shouldn't have asked someone for a copy of the biology paper in the first place. I can understand why it might piss people off, there were no devious intentions though.

PrecariousNuts - I only wanted the mock paper because its harder/different to the actually department papers. The papers ive got back to 1984 are varied - there's always new and unusual things coming up - in the papers at least - i want to be as prepared as possible.
You're right about question 3 - usually the easiest question on the paper, gorgeous question. The only thing that comes close is Question 4 when its a fixed wedge or pulleys.

I have my mocks in two days. I can't wait for them to be over with so I can listen to teachers try and tell me I need to study, and parents moan about time flying and how I need to study.

    I know already.

    You are boring.

Does anybody really care how they do? I would except I dont think it is a good idea for the majority of my exams as we haven't finished the course so its not even a proper predicition of how I am going to do.

The more time I spend in school the quicker I want to escape.

History... I don't think I can pass the leaving cert... Everything else is grand but my situation in this subject is getting me down

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,436 Mod ✭✭✭✭Suaimhneach

Ah I know. But they are stressing me out by going on. Meh. I am gonna stop ranting and just ignore them.

    It'll all be over soon.

I get my music practical mock on thursday, and my german aural mock on friday. Then the rest start on the following thursday... I can hardly wait.

**There is no emoticon for how i'm feeling, but its something like.... OH F*** OH F*** OH F***!!**

got most of my mocks results except for economics. so far i've 290 points. economics should take it up to about 350. which isnt bad.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

two results recieved, 160 points so far, gotta love that A2 in chemistry

Anybody got the 2004 Mocks exam papers for Maths ordinary level paper 2 or the Physics Higher level Papers. Urgently need them. And to all those who say that there is no point in getting a look at the papers -- there is! I know the mocks are just mocks but u got to consider the parents. Please ppl. ASAP. Thanx very much.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

No point telling you because this will get back to the teachers and they probably will whinge about it, anyway you are only fooling yourself.

But the physics paper I got had a nasty question on U-Values. You might want to ask some friends that do construction studies to give you a basic rundown on the calculations because a whole question is about it. Thats the only hard thing about it though.

    Good luck!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭Cannibal Ox

Gotten five papers back, so far I'm on a grand total of...110.

    Roll on the LC...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 507 ✭✭✭Roller Toaster

Counting my 6 best subjects I got about 430 or so. Mostly Bs and low Cs which hopefully won't be too hard to push to As and Bs come the real thing.

Maths and Irish being my worst subjects went awful.
    Got Art history on monday.

I thought they were maybe 2 or 3 variatons of popular papers, like maths and geography from each company? Or is that just our teachers messing with our heads so we wont look at any other mocks?

i think you might be right. i got my Girlfriends Irish paper(their school gets different mocks than us) but it is the same exam yet al the other exames are different so far.

Oooh, I do accounting... we got suspense a/cs, control a/cs and club a/cs in the first section, ratios, tabular statement & cash flow statement (make sure you can do an abridged p&l a/c) in the second section, and marginal costing and some kind of budget that I don't remember now in the third section.

    I see.

Our teacher said she's making her own, but she probably won't. Hopefully those questions will come up on ours too.

Time to revise this crap now. I can't even remember how to do most of them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19 Bu

Does anyone wana give me any hints for the Physics and Economics papers...please? They're my last 2 and I've done crap so far!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

Well amazingly I got 89% in physics, 2A's and a C so far brings me up to a whopping 240 points, hopefully I will get an A in bio leaving me with 330. English, German and Irish won't be too good.

For physics, law of lever, refraction, sound and resistance with temp comes up on experiments. rest is the usual. Hope you get a different paper!

    Hi all,

I did my English paper 1 yesterday. It was the one on Umbrellas, Mobile phones and photos on Smoking. Sound Familiar???????

If you did mock papers from this company PPLLLLEEEEEAAASSSEEE let me know what's coming up on Paper II. I hav it on Monday but I've Physics the same day so I cant do enough study for both.

Please, Please, Please, Please,Please, Please,Please, Please, let me know what's coming up (Poetry, Macbeth etc.)

    Thanks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 jackwalli

Ok, so my mocks start on Monday, and yes, I've just realised that I'm officially screwed. Only starting revising for business right now. Maths teacher said the paper is "interesting". I'm presuming "interesting" is a bad thing. Physics teacher said the paper was "quite challenging". Badddddddddddd. Havent even had time to start physics revision yet. English, im totally screwed, havent done any poetry all year, have only read my texts once each, dont know any Macbeth quotations. Doing pass irish, so it shoudnt be too bad, unless its like the aural, which was a bitch. French should be ok, and i dont get to do an applied mock. So yeah, panic setting in. Begining to wonder why i'm still typing this instead of revising.
Anybody has an applied mock they might want to share, since im not able to do the mock in school?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

Yeah I could do with an applied paper too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭daveyjoe

Hey guys, My mocks are nearly over now, things didn't go too badly
All, I have left is maths 2 and economics, and my dreaded orals.
For anybody who is doing ordinary Irish, on the paper I got, the aural is extremely difficult.
PM me if anyone want's hints on any exams, I don't want to be giving people all the questions though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭conZ

Yea, that pass Irish aural was a bitch. My one was had a section about the weather and the Atlantic ocean.

Done my mock french oral the other day. Got 51%, fncked up a lot, was sat there saying ''aaaaaah,am,aaaaaaaah'' for minutes at a time.

Mocks starting on Tuesday, Tech Drawing first. Anyone do it yet - what ye think?

    Also,
anyone got the second paper of the Honours maths paper PrecariousNuts posted on the first few pages?
I'm doing pass, friend wants the paper 2.

Does anyone know what proofs came up in honours maths???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 jackwalli

    Con:
All I've done so far is Paper One - you just need to differentiate CosX by first principles in question 6 or 7. Not doing paper two, so thats all i can help with.

What are law of lever, sound and refraction experiments?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

Um I think you may have some problems if you don't know what they are. I tried to be vague so I wouldn't give too much away but refraction of light one is to prove sini/sinr = n. Sound is f is proportional to 1/l. Law of lever is obvious and so is resistance with temperature.

Ok, "refraction" is snells law, and there are loads of sound ones. Law of lever i dont remember ever doing any experiments on - unless youre talking about laws of equilibrium on a set of coplanar forces? Do you use Real World Physics?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

Oh sorry, we hardly ever use that book. Our teacher just does all the stuff from his head and I guess I just used the shortened names that he uses for everything. Yeah the law of the lever one is the laws of equilibrium blah blah. You essentially just use the law of lever rules for it.

Equilibrium one is alright, some simple calculations but a tricky question asking why must the balances be hanging vertically.

Snells law is fine, graph and question. Also explain why it would be less accurate if block was on edge.

Frequency and length is grand aswell nothing difficult, draw graph and diagram.

Resistance and temp same, draw graph and easy questions.

    Shorties are fine.

Mechanics question is on archimedes with energy and power question thrown in. (Its just mgh/t to get the answer for 20 marks!)

Seven is on u-values and q=mc delta t. (U values just multiply area by u value times 60*60 for an hour)

Eight is ok. (Reducing energy lost = transmit at very high voltages thus reducing current and in P=I^2R bigger I is the more power lost) Remember you cannot use R = V/I for ESB supply cables. Apparently V/I is the p.d. between something and the earth. You have to use P =VI for this one.

Didn't do electricity question since it was such a bitch.

Modern physics I hadn't got covered but its very easy as usual.

Radioactivity is a beaut' (Just watch out when it asks "What is the name for the phenomenon above" It means the paragraph give not the question before it)

Question twelve is gorgeous part a is light and sound and b is ray diagrams. (Learn how to use a prism to turn light and definitions of total internal reflection. Polarisation is the restriction of light waves to one plane only)

You wouldnt have a scan of the Maths paper 2 PrecariousNuts?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 jackwalli

    Thanks PrecariousNuts,
That sounds like a gorgeous paper, hope i get that one. We havent finished the nuclear section or done either of the options, im kind of shaky on electricity, so as long as i can avoid those it should be grand. The experiments are lovely too, i was dreading a spectrometer question coming up, or any electricity ones, i hate them.
    Thanks again for the tips

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 761 ✭✭✭PrecariousNuts

No need for a paper 2 scan, its very straightforward (I use that term very loosely). I only put up Paper one since it was very tricky. I can honestly say that if you know your stuff trig etc you should get on fine. The further calc option is a beaut of a question.

    Anyone done Economics yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭Celtic Tiger

Economics paper I did was very doable, nothing difficult on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭conZ

Had my Tech Drawing exam yesterday and my French today - both Honours.

Tech. Drawing was a bit of a ****, probably managed a pass.

French was handy, though I only done two of three in section two. If anyone wants the paper, I wrote it all down. Reply here and I might be bothered to type it out.

Pass Irish tomorrow. Pass Maths the following day. Construction, Biology and English on Monday and Tuesday next week.
