Sounds a bit like Edison 99% persperation and 1% inspiration. - Though in most cases the persperation was of underlings and the inspiration was in a lot of cases aimed at obstructing other inverntors - even to the point where when he was suppling DC electricity he arranged for an person to be killed with AC to prove how dangerous it was, and that was a botched job...
