THE SEQUELS TO THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY are coming to BBC

BBC RADIO 4 presents an ABOVE THE TITLE PRODUCTION

THE HITCH HIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY

    by DOUGLAS ADAMS

THE TERTIARY, QUADRENARY & QUINTESSENTIAL PHASES:

    “LIFE THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING”,

“SO LONG & THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH” & “MOSTLY HARMLESS”

Twenty-five years after the original radio series of DOUGLAS ADAMS’ HITCH HIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY exploded into the public consciousness, the further exploits of its bewildered hero ARTHUR DENT are being brought to life in their original medium.

Drawn from Douglas Adams’ later Hitch Hiker novels, the adventures continue in LIFE, THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING, which will be dramatised in six half hour episodes, SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH and MOSTLY HARMLESS, which will comprise four episodes each.

As the original two series were dubbed the PRIMARY and SECONDARY phases by Douglas Adams, these new series form the TERTIARY, QUADRENARY and QUINTESSENTIAL phases, and will at last finish the ‘trilogy in five parts’.

The original Hitch Hikers radio cast is returning; SIMON JONES as Arthur Dent, GEOFFREY McGIVERN as Ford Prefect, SUSAN SHERIDAN as Trillian, MARK WING-DAVEY as Zaphod Beeblebrox and STEPHEN MOORE as the much loved Marvin The Paranoid Android.

The three new series will include several actors connected with the Hitch Hikers Guide from its other incarnations, both on stage and television, and star names will be making guest appearances, including comedy cult figures; RICHARD GRIFFITHS (WITHNAIL & I, PIE IN THE SKY), CHRIS LANGHAM (PEOPLE LIKE US), JOANNA LUMLEY (ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS), cricket commentators FRED TRUEMAN & HENRY BLOFELD and ROGER GREGG of Ireland's Crazy Dog Audio Theatre as Eddie the on-board computer.

Replacing the late Peter Jones as The Voice Of The Book is his friend, the inimitable WILLIAM FRANKLYN.

Thanks to modern technology, one of the late author’s dearest wishes can be honoured in these new series, and DOUGLAS ADAMS himself will make his Hitch Hikers acting debut in the role of AGRAJAG, the monster on a mission of vengeance against Arthur Dent.

Providing the music for the new series are Douglas’ friends PAUL ‘WIX’ WICKENS (Paul McCartney Band) and PHILIP POPE (Radio Active, KY TV).

The recordings will be mixed using the latest digital technology at THE SOUNDHOUSE LIMITED, where Douglas recorded much of the audio for his PC game STARSHIP TITANIC.

Producing the programmes in close collaboration with the Douglas Adams estate are his close friend BRUCE HYMAN and HELEN CHATTWELL of ABOVE THE TITLE PRODUCTIONS.

The programmes are being adapted, co-produced and directed by Douglas Adams’ original choice for the job, the multi-award-winning DIRK MAGGS (Radio 1’s Batman, ITV’s The Animated Mr Bean). Thanks to their early collaboration on the project, Dirk will ensure the Hitchhikers saga evolves on radio just as Douglas wanted it.

STAY TUNED: In the weeks ahead Crazy Dog will have first hand reports and interviews documenting the creation of this historic radio production.

    The broadcast dates:

Tertiary Phase - commences Tuesday 17th February 2004, 6.30pm, BBC Radio 4 for 6 weeks

Quadrenary & Qunitessential Phases - commence Tuesday 14th September 2004 at 6.30pm, BBC Radio 4 for 8 weeks.
