Nice Robfowl, what are the wheels? They look new but not too mod. Same would suit my build I think...

There are 1st generation Ultegra hubs on open 4 CD rims (the pre cursers to Open pros) the closest you could get now would be Ulterga hubs on open pro rims.

My new pride and joy a Canyon Ultimate CF size 56, bit of a budget build but I love it :D

I got the frame on Canyon's sponsoring deal for €1,000, brought over from my old PX bike - cosmic wheels, 11-25 cassette, rival shifters & rear derailleur and PX brakes & bars.
Then put on used SRAM Force Crankset & 105 front derailleur -€150, dura-ace pedals - €55, Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle - €70.

Massively impressed with the bike, brought it for it's first spin and noticed immediately how fast it is, even beat a flat KOM of mine that I hadn't got near to in months, I think changing to a double probably helped here too. Good on the hills too but was expecting it to be a bit lighter - 7.4kg incl pedals.

How do you find the handling in comparison Dubba? I've about 5,500km on the SL Pro at this stage and I'm beginning to start having a nose around with a view to changing in the next 12 months.

    Your wheels weight approx. 1775g.

If you had a set of 1400g clinchers on you'd be close to 7kg which is superbike territory.

Handling seems great.. only been out on a short spin so far but I like it.
I've put in around 10,500km on my PX and while I think its a great bike I prefer the Canyon no doubt. I was always skeptical when people talked about stiff bikes putting down more power but I can honestly say it fells like any effort is translated directly into speed :D
Also bringing components over from your PX can help keep the price down too as I've shown above. I'd defiantly recommend one as an upgrade.

I was actually looking at a couple of options - Soul S5.0 or Boyd 50mm
Hmmm, the spending never ends does it :pac:

You have the Soul S5.0 yea, how do you find them? I use the cosmic's for everything with out worries - they're very strong. Do you find the Soul's tough enough for Irish roads?

I have a version of the Soul C5.0. They are lighter (1397g) than the current ones advertised on the website. They are stiffer (read harsher) than a shallow alloy rim, but look and feel nice to race on smoothish roads, probably for purely psychological reasons (who the hell can feel a 2% power saving?).

I prefer normal wheels for non-racing purposes, and for racing on crappy roads in wet/slippery conditions.

Bought 2 weeks ago from Cycle Bike in the City.
Only been out on it twice due to one thing or another but itching to get out and put some miles up and burn some fat off me.

More stealth bomber than beauty though

    hey mike,

looked at that one when i bought, but went with the SL for the colour scheme, how you find the wheels, i thought they flexed too much for me as i ride bit out of saddle.

Being honest IVe only put 90Km on it since I bought it 2 weeks ago. Its light years better than my old trek though (although Im so used to that I find this a bit strange at times).

The wheels were a total luxury spend on the credit card, truely wasted on my lardy behind but hey they look good whilst I die in the saddle lol

I'd wager that you could and if you can't then I don't think that we can be friends any longer. I'm sorry, but this type of intimate knowledge of man and bike is what I hold dear and most value in you!!!

Yep, got it second hand on the cycling adverts sub forum from camaghead.

He's had 3 high end saddles on sale there in the past few weeks, e.g. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056687317

He also has some good deals on other parts (sram, etc.) but I'm trying to let my wallet recover a bit atm :pac:

(edit - because I can't to my bike post) I re-weighed my bike with the help of a Lidl bike stand and its actuallt not 7.4kg is 7.2kg :)

Yeah I seen them alright, but I like what I've read about that particular one and wouldn't mind trying it out, just think I could buy more important things for the price of a new one :P

    Lovely bike!

  • Registered Users Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Dubba

Thanks. Yea the price of a new one is crazy but it's surprisingly comfortable - did a 100km spin on Sat and no problems and its very light, I think around 135g even tho 125g is claimed and written on it.

I like the way it looks now, maybe changing the stem for something longer, different wheels, a different white saddle but right now its perfect looking imo(except for the shiny breaking surfaces on the rims maybe)

The newest addition to the now 2 bike strong fleet...

    81b934f2.jpg

    a1ae114a.jpg

Have always had a soft spot for the older machines, dad used to assemble them in his early days so there was always one or two knocking around my grandparents house.

This British Eagle Kinetica has Reynolds 531c tubing and a full 7-speed 105 groupset, right down to the pedals, which (from what I can make out) was released in 1991? Making this bike roughly the same age as me, give or take a year or two.

If anyone has any info on these bikes please do share, can't find much online.

From what I can make out from a short test spin, it's about the same weight as my good bike, and the geometry is every bit as racy, if not more

    Nowhere near as stiff though!

Was playing around with a spare set of slightly more modern wheels I had while fixing a puncture yesterday, and it turns out they fit the frame (thought the spacing would be too wide), think they make the bike look a bit fresher?

Also stuck on a spare pair of spd-sl pedals, and a different saddle, although I'd like to put the one off the good bike on when I get around to upgrading that :dizzy:
