Where do ye get the Dolan bikes? I've never seen them online or in a shop, and I was interested in one. How much did this model cost you?

My LBS got the frame direct from Dolan. He ordered it on Monday and he had it on Tuesday. I told him what components I wanted could afford and he built it for me.

The frameset is 875 sterling here, Worldwide Cycles have it for 975 euro

Ah class, I'm living in Limerick! Was it Declan or John you were dealing with? What model did you do for and how much did it cost? Does he still give good deals on bikes, I heard a while back that he gave discount on Dolans, am I right? Cheers!

How much did the Hercules cost you in the end? It's absolutely lovely, I'd love one of those! Some time soon maybe :pac:

By the way, how do you find the Dolans? How would you compare it to something like this?

I was looking them up online there on formbyclycles: Both the Hercules and Aurora

Were the prices in the LBS any bit close to these prices? Also, what difference can ye see between the the this and this? Is it just the 100g saving of the "SL" Ultegra groupset? If so, is it worth £150 ??? Also, how would ye compare the Hercules and Aurora, worth the extra £300...what would the weights of these bike be like once built up fully? Cheers

I've done all my dealings with John and can't say enough good about them there.

The bike was on limited offer at e1800 down from e2800 and it's good, at that price excellent. It's stiff and responsive and feels very stable. It got a rave review in Febuary's ProCycling where the yanks thought it was excellent and amazing value at 3200USD (or thereabouts).

How it compares with the Iozard - well the frame's are very similar in appearance and you're looking at the competing Ultegra and Chorus grouppos (I'm a campag man but know value when I see it), with morealess equivalent finishing kit.

The difference as I see it is in the wheels - Aksiums vs Racing 3s - but the Iozard is more expensive which explains that. I'm sure if you pursued the dolan with John you could come to an arrangement with trading the aksiums for something a bit lighter/more pricy (mind you the aksiums are very well reviewed)

I'm happy with aksiums, a it heavy but they roll well and look nice. Also remarkably strong, mine are perfectly true.

I edited the previous post there, have a look at it again! Thanks ;)

John is great alright! Is that offer still on do you know? Thats a big reduction alright, I would probably jump at it for the €1800 but not really able to justify the €1000 in the difference! :D

NOTE: The Izoard comes with Fulcrum Racing 5's not 3's (RCUK got a demo model) so there isn't much between these and the Aksiums (on CRC anyway)

I'd agree with that, but I did change mine for the Ultegra wheelset and have to say they made a difference. They don't look as well on the bike as the black aksiums though

Well, ultegra hubs are miles better anyway. If I was getting a new wheelset it would probably be mavic open pros on ultegra hubs.

But I won't be getting new wheels until I improve, I am cutting back on my cycling related purchases :(

No harm in calling in and asking, you wouldn't know what he might be able to sort out for you, but can't tell you off hand.

Looking at the bikes with racing 5's vs aksiums I think you'd have to decide on either the basis of which grouppo you prefer or make the cold hard decision on the cost. I will say I can't find fault in the Dolan, even though my group preference would be campag.

if you look at the Aroura, you might find that the integrated seat mast provides problems with bike boxes/bags and if you cut it to height there's no adding it back if you grow. Also it limits who can buy it when you decide to part ways with it.

As regards the 100g/150yoyo Ultegra vs ultegra SL question - near as I know there's essentially no difference in performance, get the standard one and more time on the bike and lose 100g on yourself instead. Alternatively buy lighter rim tape, tubes and tyres and lose 100g+ that way wilst improving those aksuims performance

I had this up here ages back as a work in progress... I'm pretty much finished now. I will eventually get a new seatpost and maybe saddle as my ar*se is just not adjusting to this one...! I just finished applying the decals that I designed and printed myself. What do yee think...? Now all I have to do is to remember how to off road...!

Hey ratsam, that's a beauty! You don't see those Magura hydraulic rim brakes around much and they are excellent brakes if quite a fiddle to set up. You might find that when you release them to take the wheels out that it's quite easy to accidently pull a brake pad out at the same time as they pop in and out very easily. This is okay once you notice it but I arrived down at Djouce (Wicklow) one evening for a night spin to find that one pad had evidently fallen out back at home resulting in an interesting spin with just the front brake.

Lovely looking ride ratsam. Refreshing look to your bike not having disc brakes especially on the front end. Makes it stand out straight away.
Love the black inners on the forks, really stands out with the white frame.

*edit* Need to snip those cable ties on the forks.;)
