Kuota Kebel with Ultegra SL Compact group from Worldwide in Clonmel
Mavic Syriums SL - from Mr Skeff in Dublin.

Love the bike. Handles very well and appears to be faster than my other bikes. Stiff, so not particularly suited to certain routes in Kerry.

I know that the headset needs cutting so dont bother pointing out the obvious. I have been trying various positions but they all seem comfy - so I am confused. I also am doubting whether I need a raised stem any more. I dont use one on another bike and it seems fine in terms of back comfort.

Pic aint they best, so apologies. Best I can muster.

Arrived on Friday First ride this morning's race and it was a treat. Sram Red Double Tap was easy to get use to.
    The vital stats are

53" Red Bull Carbon X-lite 1K T40/60, internal cabling ( K represents the thickness of an individual carbon strand. T represents the tensile strength of the frame)

Sram Red Group set however I swapped the cassette & chain for Dura ace. As dura ace cassette comes in an 11-21 and Red is notoriously noisey.
    Look keo max carbon pedals
Ksyrium SL Tubular wheel set with 22mm Continental competition tubs.
FSA OS 99 carbon stem & FSA K force carbon seat post
    Fizik Antares saddle
    Ritchey comp streem (Alloy) handlebars
    6.6kg

    €3,581

Was that the Vets race this morning? Saw you at the start.

Yep I did the vet's race. The bike felt great just I was going wagon. Had a 3 week lay off. But I finished in the bunch. Just need a few more weeks of regular spins. The saddle and the pedals were surprisingly very comfortable. I have the previous generation Keo carbon on my trainer. The 2010 model has a larger platform area so too has the saddle! Larger surface areas seems to = comfort.

    Anything under 6.8kg is cheating!

As far as I understand that regulation it only apply for UCI sanctioned races. Like the Ras for example. For all other races it is a free for all. Ya can slice 3" off your seat post, 1" off your handlebars, snip off a few spokes from each wheel and take half a dozen links from chain all in the interests of saving a few precious grams..... I might peel off the the transfers from the frame. There must be at least 2 grams there?. Okay I got to go have my breakfast... Can of regular Coke & 2 chocolate donuts :D

@amused2death: love the bike, proper no-compromises race spec.

Stupid question: does "Red Bvll" mean "Red Bull" as in the disgusting caffeine drink?

No connection to Red Bull the drinks company. Red Bull bikes is one brand of bikes produced by german company Rose versand. It is 100 years in business and has both a large outlet in Germany and online shop.

    http://roseversand.com/bikes.html?cid=156&detail=1500&detail2=1

I bought a training bike & other gear from them about 2 years ago and found their range and prices the best around. As with any shop some items are cheaper and some are not. They operate a points for euros system for all purchases. I think I have about €80 worth of credit from buying this bike. Currently they are doing a free euro wide post on purchases over €30 till 6 June I think.
I had to send back a pair of carbon shoes (€74 1/2 price sale) as they were too tight. They refunded the item and postage of €15 no problem. Not all online vendors with cover return postage for items that don't fit.

I would have been as happy buying local but no one was even close on price for the standard of carbon frame I wanted. I constantly compare prices from Irish shops and online sites but sadly time and time again prices here are 15%- 25% dearer.

Sorry Caroline No can do, for the time being anyway. I have poor core strength and flexibility (age + lifestyle related!) hence the not so aerodynamic position. The good news is I am working on these shortcomings and in time I will be able to improve the aero profile on the bike

No, the 6.8kg rule applies to all races. It's in the Cycling Ireland regulations.

It seems I stand corrected The CI regs do contain a minimum weight of 6.8kg for a bike. I could not see any specific reference or application so one assumes it applies for all CI races. Now that said, I am going to step out again by saying the limit does not apply to IVCA held races.
If someone knows better please reference the regulation for the rest of us to learn from.
Back to Cycling Ireland and its regulations. This clearly is not a regulation the CI take seriously or enforce. As part of my "research" prior to buying my bike I checked the weights of bikes at a number of races (all be it by just hand lifting the bikes). While not scientifically accurate one can get a good feel for weights when comparing one to anther. A significant number of high end bikes were as light and some lighter than mine. If a carbon frame weighs in at under 1kg and a top end group set is added plus all carbon finishing kit the 6.8kg can easily be got under.
6 of the 7 Canyon Ultimate CF SLX models available are under this weight with the top bike at an unbelievable 5.8kg = 12.8lbs (€6,000).

That looks like a big height drop from saddle to bars, and it's combined with pretty deep looking bars. I'm impressed...

I really must remove some of the spacers from under my stem...

Question (for anybody): is it necessary to have at least one spacer under the stem?

The instructions on my new Easton forks say that there must be a spacer above the stem, presumably to create a perfect circle of pressure rather than having a gap at the back where the clamp is. The instructions also picture spacers (up to 50mm) under the stem, but since headset (external Chris King in my case) is already a perfect circle, I wonder whether this is necessary.

No, under the stem is not necessary, the stem will just sit on the headset cover. Above the cap it is necessary ONLY with a carbon steerer. The usual requirement is to have a 3mm gap from steerer to top of stem to allow the top cap bolt room to clamp down and compress the headset. Unfortunately, doing this with a carbon steerer can apparently result in cracking so you need to have the steerer either flush or slightly above the stem. You then need a spacer to create the 3mm gap otherwise tightening the top cap onto the stem won't do anything!
