    Seems to be the most appropriate forum...

    Is it possible to lookup an IEDR handle.

    Their WHOIS works for domains, but what about handles?
    (eg John Smith would be JS00-IEDR)

    Nope, 'fraid not. If you have a particular need to know, drop the hostmasters a line and explain it to them.

    No. IEDR's WHOIS is only a partial WHOIS and in some cases is probably not even accurate. When dealing with IEDR, you have to remember that you are not dealing with a competently run registry.

    The registration type (Company/RBN/Person) used to be included in the WHOIS data along with the CRO number in some cases. However historical incompetence of IEDR management meant that no hard rules were applied to .ie WHOIS data entry. Often registration details were either out of date or wrong - this has caused a lot of problems particularly with billing contact data. IEDR overhauled its WHOIS data removing a lot of this critical information from its public WHOIS. It could have been over-zealous housekeeping though there some would consider it an attempt to limit accurate data on live domains thus making .ie appear to be a vibrant cctld rather than the rotting, worm riven carcass.

    As Adam suggested, an e-mail to the 'hostmasters' is perhaps the only way as they seem to be the last techies left in IEDR. The board and management wouldn't know one end of a zone file from the other.

    There is also the possibility that you can correlate the details from a .ie to a .com that is owned by the same registrant. The CRO [1] may also be of use if the domain is a registered business name.
