Question regarding mobo

Im looking about getting a new motherboard and would prefer to stick to a gigabyte motherboard as ive found them to be very reliable and durable over the past couple of years...

I currently have the Gigabyte 7VAXP-A Ultra mainboard but was looking at some of the ones on www.overclock.co.uk as an alternative..

But looking at them i couldnt tell if they would be better or not or support the current stuff i have in there at the moment

I would need it to support AMD XP 3000+ barton 512k
and i have 1280 mb PC2100 ddr ram.. (although i would update this to pc3200 when i get paid at end of month and can clear some of the cc debt..)

ok http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/product.php?productid=16822&cat=316&page=1 is the one i was looking at justnow as it looks to be good enough and alot of people recommend the nforce2 chipset?

for detailed info on my current board it can be found at

    http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7VAXP-A%20Ultra.htm

    thoughts?

can i also ask what you look at when comparing motherboards... :)

    get this one chief:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?action=info&sku=121245&p=&t=845&l=2&AvdID=1&CatID=10&GrpID=5&cks=PRL

    Abit AN7

has everything possible for a socket A system, far better than the gigabytes. The uGuru chip can also help if system crashes much.

+ if u get a serillel adaptor for it u can run your hard drives off the serial ata ports.

    Ram wise:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?action=info&sku=118498&p=&t=1014&l=2&AvdID=1&CatID=17&GrpID=9&cks=PRL

    1024mb pc3200 there.

Also, when u get a new board, only use two of the memory sticks, alot of boards have issues using more than two, or drop the speed or latency, so you actually decrease performance by using 3.

is that 2 x 512 sticks or 4x 256 sticks (looking at the picture seems to say 256mb but thats all i can make out..) ?

I would need it to support AMD XP 3000+ barton 512k and i have PC2100 ddr ram

as well as the Abit Nf-7 2.0 mobo
im running512 mb pc2100 ddr ram, with the XP3000, it runs very well , except the ram sometimes can give a little lag when it comes to gaming, im going to add another 512 pc3200 ram into it to improve performance.

    what gfx card you have?

and dosent adding ram with a higher dram clock negate that fact? (i.e if you put pc2700 into a pc2100 it will all only show up as 2100? atleast that was my understanding of the matter..)

Memory is limited by the slowest speed module.

The AN7 is the upgraded version of the NF7-S v2
