IOL, Zyxel P623R ethernet problem

I'm using the Zyxel Prestige 623R connected to my pc via the ethernet port.
I've been experiencing the odd drop out which I briefly cannot access any site and the control panel at 192.168.1.1.

Pinging 192.168.1.1 gave me <10ms except briefly when I got:
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=254
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=254
    Request timed out.

    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1500ms TTL=254
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=254

The plugs at either end are connected tightly but there does seem to be a problem with the local ethernet comms.. I'm just using the standard short cable provided with the modem.
    Anyone got any suggestions?
I'm running Windows 2000 with a Macronix MX98715 Family Fast Ethernet Adapter

Norton Firewall keeps giving me this:

"TCP non-syn/non-ack packet on invalid connection. Packet has been dropped"
Source IP address: www.iol.ie(194.145.128.36) // or whatever web address I try
    Destination IP address: ONE(192.168.1.33)
    TCP Source Port: http(80)
    TCP Destination Port: 4574
    TCP Message Flags: 0x00000011

Also the Zyxel stats show ethernet collisions even though there is only one computer connected to the modem. Is this normal?

Anyone know why I'm getting so many Ethernet packet collisions? I've got 4173 according to the Zyxel control panel..

Also, I'm constantly getting "Invalid Destination IP Address" warnings from Norton Firewall.
"The Destination IP address 0.0.12.0 is invalid".

Just got disconnected again there for the first time since I last posted
