Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

so whats happening in donegal and letterkenny

is it stll a good town for night life, spent four years there in the college and it was a booming time when i was there, Nero's and the golden grill going in full force.

Is McGinleys at the bottom of the town still a live music venue

Of course instead of 3 secondary schools, there's just one in Ballyshannon now! Ah how fondly I remember the green uniforms! :o

I'm stuck between Ballyshannon and Donegal Town btw.

am also from donegal, live near the border with derry (burt) but mostly go out in buncrana.
hey, freak_bruther, you said you're from buncrana, wonder if i've ever seen you there.....

Clonmany here. Yes, that big metropolis that when people ask where Buncrana is, I say "oh, it's about 15 minutes south of Clonmany". Or maybe it's the other way round..

I know Chief (not Chief---) is from Buncrana, and Goodshape too (from what I've read).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 550 ✭✭✭Barbie_666

yes...I admit it!!!i am one of the many fools that waste Saturday nights (mabey Sundays too) in the kip they call the Abbey...but hey, where else is there?!?
Glenties sucks, and they done away with Neros...not that it was any better!!!I dont really like Bundoran...people r way 2 violent!!! :p And as 4 The Grill in Letterkenny.... PURLEASE!!!!If i want to show my fake ID every 5 miniutes, i can do that ALOT closer 2 home...
Heaneys in Ballybofey is a good wee spot...wee being the word...
But there is a class wee pub there called Junction 15.It looks like a dive on the outside, but inside its nice!
The Metropolitan...or wotever its called now...thats sooooo pretty inside!!!
and i love Sister Sarah's...but i used to think it was a convent when i woz younger...The Cavern is pretty cool too, but hard enuff 2 get into, ya know, my ID bein fake 'n' all.... :p

Ah how can I forget Nero's or Club N as they tried to call it! Yeah it was a dive too but I preferred it over the Abbey for some reason. Beer was minging though.

Only pub I miss is Baby Joes (was taken over and renamed i-vibes for a while). Some really good bands used to play there.

    Teh memories! :)

Im from Killybegs, (no fish comments please)

Was in Club Nappies once - never again.

Baby Joes was cool - shame there is no decent band venues around.

Didnt like ballyshannon - they always beat us in Basketball (then again so did everyone else) - was a few cute girls there though :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 550 ✭✭✭Barbie_666

    CLUB NAPPIES?!?
    ooookkkkkkkk............
    where the hell is that?!?
    :p

Ah Smellybegs! :D Only joking. Killybegs is getting a lot of work done at the moment, with the new pier and that new building on the way into the town where a pub, filling station and bookies used to be under the one roof! That was handy! :)

I haven't heard the term Club Nappy in a while! One of those clubs that once you were 18, you were nearly too OLD to enter! :D

Yea, nothing has replaced Baby Joes apart from Doms Pier1 trying it out with a few good bands like Mr Brownstone etc, though it never took off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 550 ✭✭✭Barbie_666

i used to work in Doms pier 1....i HATED it!!!!!!!
(its a hole)...but a very wee nice hole!!!
It was funny the night of the high tide and the dance floor flodded...ahh the memories!!!

Ah, I remember that, though I seldom ventured to Doms anyway. Still don't. My sister was on work-placement in Doms for a while, she also hated it

I was in the Abbey last night for first time in a few months! Christ, it was terrible. At least five "songs" were replayed 4 times! The "DJ" must have a very poor collection of music, especially when he had to play the same songs repeatedly. It definitely doesn't warrant a tenner entry. My money wouldve been better spent on Conal Gallen in the Central last night.

McElhinney's - the bane of every youngfella making his Confirmation. Well, at least it was for me.

And if the Music Centre in Ballybofey is anything like the one in Letterkenny, it's obvious you haven't been to CDWow.ie or Play.com.

Only place in Glenties I've been is the Limelight. Didn't go too often tho, as it's a bit too far away.

    Barbie_666,

The BallybofeyandStranorlar website was set and is run by one individual on a voluntary basis. Perhaps if the commercial establishments such as those you mention were too advertise or sponsor the website it might come up to the standard you seem too expect, whatever that may be ?...

As a born and bred Ballybofey socialist. I for one do not see any Twin-Towns capitalist business concerns putting money anywhere except their own greedy pockets.

They do not get my money. Thats for sure. Viva la Revolution ! ;)
