    an atlon 64 and q-tec don't go

so unless you would like some fried silicon for breakfast i'd spend double on what the psu costs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭El_MUERkO

Rgr, what about the rest of the system does it look ok?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

well if it was me i'd:

    1. get a cd burner and dvd combo or, better still, a dvd burner.

    2. get a SATA drive. neater and in theory faster. also I'd get a seagate or a samsung. these are the quietest around.

    3. throw in a few more quid and get a 160GB drive.

other than that its fine. you should get some nice benchmarks with that 9800pro. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭Ryaner

The system is quite good overall. But yes the PSU, qtec are the worse ever. Spend the money and get a good one and you'll never go back to crap ones espec if you OC.

Right I reworked it a bit, better Mobo and Processor, DVD+CDRW combo, Cheaper case which includes a PSU, No soundcard but the onboard sound on the abit is supposed to be excellent.

Will the 360 watt PSU be good enough?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

yup that all looks great. the chieftecs are great cases. the 360w should be fine. what's important to remember is the quality of the PSU is more important than the output. a chieftec 360w is much better than a qtec 420w. usually.

and i was gonna say you consider dropping the soundcard if you weren't planning on doing heavy.....sound things. the onboards nowadays are normally quite good. heard good things about that mobo too.

so now you've one less drive and soundcard. that should save you a few watts of power. it shouldn't matter though, you're well covered. should be a good overclocker.

    go order it! :)

One of the lads in works looking for a PC as well so I might be ordering two... now if I can just find the creditcard... :D

    122901 Sapphire Radeon 9800 Atlantis PRO 128MB
That graphics card wont be in stock until the end of the month......
    its €285 -> www.jes-computer.de , and in stock.

    123406 Thermaltake Venus 12 CPU-Vifte
Personally id get a Zalman 7000, probably the best cooler available for socket 754 and very quiet. (i hate thermaltake heatsinks, any of them ive had are very noisey)

    117681 Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB S-ATA
Nice drive, for €110 you can get a samsung spinpoint (jes-computer).

    118438 Sony CD-writer IDE48x/24x/48x/16x Combo
Nec DVD+/- Burner available for €93 (jes-computer again)

Personally id probably get the Xp3000+ AMD64, i know theres extra cache on the Xp3200+ but if you look at the benchmarks there really isint much difference at all..... specially with games.

The Audigy 2 will be better than any onboard sound, i have the NF7-S and got the Audigy......... i noticed a nice difference and am really impressed with it . Its a killer sound card, wouldnt rule it out.

For some really fancy cases try www.xcase.co.uk .
If you want a really quiet PSU.... www.hitide.ie (the PSU's have fan controllers so it adjusts the fan speed according to load on the PSU..... if your only doing little things then your pc is very quiet, if your gaming then the fans get faster...... very nice i think. Running fans full speed will leave you with a loud system).

With reguards mice & keyboards for €42 you can get cordless fantastic versions...... again check out www.jes-computer.de . Might save you some money and get you better products.

    Hope its a little help,

    Loki

Cheers for the suggestion Loki will have a look at the site now, You can get Sapphire Radeon 9800 Atlantis PRO 128MB's from Newegg in America for $230 so I'll probably be getting my aunt to buy and fed-ex them back.

Sorry to butt in on someone else's thread - but the comments on power supplies got me thinking. I'm considering building an Athlon system and was looking at the AOpen H700C tower case with 400w PSU. Is this a decent case + power supply? Some pics and specs here:

Stay away from the Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB S-ATA drive. I had that and it's very very slow. My ide drive was out performing it. I've a maxtor one now and the benifits of sata are clearly visable with it. The samsung one is good aswell I hear.

In regards the aopen stuff brian, the case looks pretty ok. Doesnt look like it's a screwless design. Something which is very very handy. As for the psu, I aint too familar with them. I'd prob recommend going for an antec one since I've got one. It's a great psu and got blue light :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭Col_Loki

Im not 100% what the Aopen PSU's are like and it doesent seem to give much details on it. I would bet that its pretty noisey, but it should be ok (in general Aopen wouldnt be bad). Avoid no-name PSU's, q-tec psu's, or generally cheap PSU's.

Am not sure why your going for that case, i like the motherboard tray idea but how nessary is that unless your taking it in and out every week!! If you do get the case, just have a small look at your voltage rails to make sure there not way off..........

Best PSU makes would be...... Antec, be-quiet, enermax, Fortron, PCP&C, thermaltake..... if you get a psu made by one of those then you dont really have to worry !! Saying that i think the Aopen one will probably work fine for you.......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,431 ✭✭✭BrianD3

Thanks lads. The reason I was thinking of the AOpen is simply that I like the look of it. Big, square, black and with no fancy or "trendy" features - that's how I want the case to look :) Anyhow, I am a total newbie to this and am just trying to pick up some tips for building a system. I won't be rushing into anything just yet :)

GLS (Forwarding expenses cannot be calculated for the moment): € 0,00

    Total: € 1.455,23

Assuming the delivery is less than €50 I save money and get the Audigy 2 ZS

Two things I'm a bit worried about:

1: The power supply coming with the Chieftec, but I can ring up before the order.

2: The Zalman 7000 looks like its just a fan to I have to get a copper sink to attack to it?

Why not get it in two orders? Im not sure about getting heavy things like a monitor and case from germany........ postage would be killer. Komplett will do postage for €10 (its not the best but if you can wait a week)...... best of both worlds i think.

If your worried about the PSU then you can always pop onto hitide.ie and pick one up.......it'l be quiet and good quality (and price isint bad at all) .

Shipping should be around €20 ish if you take out the heavy items (monitor & case). The only thing is if you pay by credit card paypal charge an aditional fee which could be about €20 on top of that  ........ if you pay through their bank account then you dont pay this (extra €20-30 to spend).

There is no PSU with that case, you have to put your own in. (usual list of best PSU's ..... Antec, Be-quiet, Fortron, enermax, thermaltake, PCP&C, Zalman.....)
Quietest ones are the Zalman, Be-quiet, Fortron (2 fans if you dont mod, 1x120mm if you mod it to 5v).......

If your thinkin of overclocking your 9800pro then why not get an Artic cooler aswell? There feckin huge, my order just came and i was very supprised!!

2: The Zalman 7000 looks like its just a fan to I have to get a copper sink to attack to it?

The zalman is a heatsink & fan all in one, nothing to worry about there...... prob just a bad picture.

Remember to pick up an SATA cable for your HDrive & power addapter if need be (only a couple of euro's) .......... i forgot and have to wait another week to get them :)

Other than that it looks like a very sweet system........

The mobo is an SATA only i think so it should come with one, I'll check.

The monitor I wanted to get from Komplett disappeared today, it was their yesterday, this one is the closest. and even if it costs an extra €30 just to ship it it saves me money :)

Looking into the artic cooler now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭El_MUERkO

Revised order sent to Jes today, glad I waited and saved €70 on the 9800pro.

Got a second case + 5 fans + VGA artic cooler for meh while i was at it, still waiting on an email about shipping weights for all that stuff but it could be around €100. Even taking that into account the whole is still far cheaper than Komplett :)

El_MUERkO im also planning on ordering from jes-computer , seemed save enoug so far? problem i noticed is terms and conditions etc. is only in german :E
are your items covered in transit etc.?

Im ordering from jes-computer too in the next few days. Could this place be the new komplett?, well ill be buying my stuff from jes from now on thats for sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭Ryaner

Problem you'll have to watch with jes is if yor buying anything like network hubs or routers. The fireware is the german one (ie. all the stuff is in german when you log into them) in some case you cant just flash them to be english.
Most things dont matter, like just about everything else your gonna buy and it's def alot cheaper than anything over here which is a great thing

I am unable to read the T&C's but I'm taking a chance and assuming the cargo company are insured for loss or damage of goods. Otherwise they wouldnt be much of a company.

I'm going to the bank to pay this lunchtime, stoopid banking 365 wont transfer to overseas bank accounts proving that our banks once you get past the modern/internet-ifiedy front are still out-dated overly expensive sacks of pap.

EL_MURKEO mate, you got your stuff? had any problems with jes-computers?
    whats your verdict?

It took roughly a week for my orders to come......... €600 worth of stuff, saved alot over komplett and they have a better range and re-stock far quicker. Can see myself going there in future TBH.

How much did shipping cost and which company delivered? Do they ring you up and organise a time for delivery as I won't be able to be at home before 2pm for the next few weeks. Cheers
