Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ad-Hoc wireless problem

I'm trying to setup an Ad-Hoc connection between my laptop with a D-Link DWL-G650+ and my Dell Axim with a D-Link DCF-660W.

It seems that the laptop, at least, is picking up information from the PDA: It picks up the SSID that I set on the PDA. Unfortunately, this is as far as I've got. I have assigned them both IP addresses, and they are on the same channel, but I cannot ping one device from the other. NetStumbler on the laptop picks up the PDA too, but I'm not too sure exactly what it's telling me yet.

    Anybody have any ideas/pointers?

    Thanks,
    Zab.

If the laptop is running XP check "Wireless Zero Configuration" under network settings. It can affect XP connecting to another device under ad-hoc mode.

Sorry, should have mentioned: 2k on the laptop and PPC2002 on the PDA.

    Thanks anyway.

On a side note, I've managed to screw up the drivers on the laptop, and the D-Link utility isn't finding the card anymore... but I'm sure I'll work that one out. I think it was because I tried to "update" the driver with one from the dlink website, which I suspect was actually an older driver.

Okay, this one is sorted now.

Seems that the location I was using just had too much background interference. When I brought the devices somewhere else, they worked without any further configuration. I think the fact that it was picking up the PDA from the laptop led me to believe that I should be able to send at least the odd packet over the link, but I guess not.

Interestingly, I also bought a D-Link Wireless AP/router, which I was convinced wasn't working either. It was flapping the (wired) ethernet ports, and only giving a link for 2-3 seconds at a time. This also stopped happening when I moved the device. So, it seems that it was letting the interference on the Wireless link ( with no devices on it, as it happens ) corrupt the wired ports too ( at transport level ). Which means it's my own fault for buying SOHO junk.
