The National Safety Council has reported a slight increase in road deaths so far this year compared with the same period last year.

The council said 29 people had died on Ireland’s roads so far in 2004, two more than during the same period in 2003.

The latest victim was an 80-year-old man who died in hospital on Tuesday after he was struck by a bus in the Clontarf area of Dublin on January 17.
