Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Clampers in stand-off with Mexican driver
    From:The Irish Independent
    Friday, 6th February, 2004

TRAFFIC clampers faced a Mexican stand-off yesterday when an irate motorist jumped into their truck in protest at having his vehicle towed away.

The man - a Mexican national working in Ireland - was furious when he returned to his car, parked off George's Quay in Cork city centre, to find it in the process of being towed away by traffic officials shortly before 11am.

The man protested to the contractors hired by Cork City Council to enforce their strict on-street parking regime but, as the car was already lifted off the ground, they refused to release it.

After an increasingly heated exchange, the man then jumped into the cab of the clampers' truck.

He refused to get out of the truck's cab until his car had been released.

The contractors alerted gardai to the incident - and, after talks between the motorist and gardai, his vehicle was eventually released.

A large crowd, gathered on George's Quay to witness the confrontation, applauded as the man's car was released - and he promptly drove away.

However, it is understood he could now face a garda prosecution for possible public order breaches.

Such a prosecution would involve a fine of up to €160 - almost €50 more than the release charge for cars which have been towed away.

Gardai last night repeated their warning to Cork motorists not to resort to jumping into their cars in a bid to prevent traffic officials from towing their vehicle away.

Clampers are not allowed tow away vehicles which have an occupant.

Likewise, vehicles which are clamped but not released by their owners before 8pm are also towed to the impound yard over safety fears.
