    It does seem that what is above is the best option.
    I would agree with it as a said aready. Many people will agree with this and it is the most fair and seems resonable. The posts count stay but there not posted along with every post

    Most forums ive visited had postcounts. Its always seemed to be just one of those ways you judge whos a regular contributer (helpful or not)

    Why are people SO FRICKIN BAD at making internet/real life analogys?

    A better one would be appearance (in terms of dress - suits, casual, bum on the street, functional etc etc). How we look classifies us subconciously in other peoples mind. These classifications can be incorrect but generally serve as a starting point when relating to others.

    I suppose Post counts and date registered go some way to making up for that loss on the internet.
