Well, the boys at Galactic Conquest have just released a patch, there is both a full download and incremental available.

GALACTIC CONQUEST 0.1E

******** REQUIREMENTS **********

Galactic Conquest needs the recommended PC specifications
for Battlefield 1942 patched to 1.6 in order to work.

******** INSTALLATION **********

Unzip this .zip to your Battlefield 1942\MODS folder.
Be sure that it overwrites the existing files.

******** CHANGES **********

any idea when they might release a new map or something else aside from a compatibility patch?

They plan to release 8 custom maps in the upcoming 0.2 release. The maps will include an updated Battle of Howth aswell as Tattoone [sp?], Endor and another pure space map [yes, no land or water ... just pure space battle] among others. However, they still will not give out a release date for 0.2. They say "It will be done when its done".

It is expected to be a good release. From screenshots they have a lot more models, textures done, apart from some brillant maps too.

iirc, they're beta-testing at the moment, so I think it shouldn't be too long; I'd imagine that no more than most mods, they'll want to release before BF:V comes along

appears to be a direct download link for me. Ill check around for more mirrors though now and update my origional post.
