Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Has Rio appealed yet ?

Ferdinand sent a 125 page appeal to the FA, they're still reading it, trawling through the no doubt mind numbing legal-speke it is full of.

This stuff about the Serie A players is a complete joke.

Blatter needs to step down as FIFA president, he is nothing short of incompetent.

Who does he think he is sticking his nose into the Rio affair, the not a word about this Italian situation. The FA had no choice but to throw the book at Rio, after his comments.

And his comments about ladies football, while they might have been amusing, we're totally uncalled for.

    Blatter Out!

Well if thats the case Ferdinand's punishment should be reduced.

And Blatter should go as well, bloody useless meddling donkey !

    Magnier for UEFA President :p

is there relly a point in appealing, even if he gets it reduced by 2 months all that will do is free him up 2 play for england in the euro champs. Surely itd be better for utd if he had an extra 2 months rest if hes missing the season anyway.

It was up to Rio to appeal not United. If he wants to play for his country there is nothing United can do.

hmmm well as a abu I don't really care. But as a footy fan I think it would be terrible for any player no matter who he plays for to miss a Major competition like the European Championship.

Until UEFA start dealing with these issues in a uniform matter over all countries then players will have to be given the benefit of the doubt.

Personally they should have bans set in stone like athletics of around 2 years if a footballer is found using drugs. Maybe one year for failing to be available for testing and testing should be totally random (ie the testers turn up without notice and the test is conducted there and then).

ithink weve seen from the past that fergie decides who plays for there country. mysterious injuries and the like. And anyway tbh if ur employer was paying u €70,000 a week r so ( not going to research what hes on) ur hadly going to risk annoying them 2 go do a free ( in relation to his weekly wage) nixer. I wouldnt, u have 2 look after no1 these days.

the ban for missing the test cant really be lower than the ban for being caught, othewise anyone who is guilty will just leg it wen the testers show up, that way they get a half ban.

I am not a Man utd fan and I don't believe that is true. It may be true about Keane but he ran riot when McCarthy accused him of faking injury. I can't think of any other Man U player that mysteriously missed internationals, I know Giggs was accused but is there any truth in that. Anyway, this is the European championships not a friendly.

the thing is tho, hes going to sit on his arse for the lenghtof the ban ( im sure he will train) on full wages. So i dont think utd would appreciate if he gets a reduced ban and then gets a long term injury playing for england in the euro champs. Say he get a 6 months injury, that wud mean he was off work for 14 months on full pay ( how much is he on?) but managed to come back for england in between because the fa reduced the ban, that wud suit the fa down to the ground cos they have him back for the finals. tbh i think the fa want him to miss it, cos it means if they underachieve they can save face y saying its down to the fact they r missing ferdinand.

I don't think Rio would get an injury playing for England if the ban was reduced for the simple reason that I don't think he would even play at all. He will not have played since January so I think Sven would prefer to stick Sol and Terry in instead.

i realise that , it was really more of a what-if, but it is possible.

IMO he will win his appeal and the ban will be reduced down to two or three months. This will give him football at the end of the season before EURO2004 which will keep Sven happy.

Did Blatter or the Italian FA reduce the bans?

Rio's ban was a joke regardless of the amount of time that people who actually did use performance enhansing drugs got. It should have been a two month ban and a slap on the wrist. Two months was enough. This is just taking the piss now.

I think it was mentioned at the time that Blatter criticised the English FA at the time because during the last round of elections the English FA didn't back Blatter for president. This was his way of getting back at them.
