Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    from the bbc
A Government report is urging the Premier League to consider introducing a wage cap.
The report also asks the Premier League to double the broadcasting income it passes on to the rest of football.

Personally i think this makes sense, especially the second bit. The gap between rich and poor is massive and if a wage cap lets more money through to the lower echelons its probably a good thing.

Wage caps seem to have had mixed success in US sports, but im not sure how the EU would react.

The report makes a lot of good commonsense recommendations, but i reckon its those two that will make the headlines.
    • Premier League to double to 10% the broadcasting revenue it re-distributes to the rest of football
    • More re-distribution of TV rights money within the Premier League
    • Detailed research into the financial impact of the transfer window
    • Consultation between football authorities and all clubs on the re-introduction of gate-sharing
    • Strong support for severe points deduction for clubs going into administration.
    • Wage-capping to be considered by Premier League if experiment in Football League/Conference proves successful
    • Immediate introduction of the `Fit & Proper Person' test for club directors
    • Supporters' views represented at board level and FA to be more representative of modern Britain
    • All professional clubs to have budgets approved two seasons in advance
    • Introduction of an agents' levy to be re-distributed to grass-roots game
    • Future Premier League contracts to include limited number of games to be broadcast by free-to-air channels
    • Decisive England qualifying matches to become Listed Events
    • The norm for a majority of a club's home league fixtures to kick off at 3pm on a Saturday

AS with most reports there are some good and some bad recommendations but overall as most the of the money generated by football is through TV rights I cant see the ones that affect Kickoff times etc being implemented. As for the wage cap I would imagine that would contravene some European employment laws and so would be a non starter. If it does not contravene any laws it would only work if it was enforced in the rest of Europe as well to give all Clubs and even Pitch if you pardon the pun.

I can see a lot of opposition to this - imagine what would happen if the Gov started suggesting restrictions on other industries, banks etc. IMO the gov cannot start to enforce restrictions on clubs which are businesses after all

government can do what it wants, its the government - it just passes a law. Esp in england when labour have a massive majority :)

remember in the 80's the government her put a price control on bread, forceing the bread makers to sell it at a certain cost..

it can do anything it wants? Just like it could pass the 3rd level fees bill with no hitches, eh?
