Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well done Henry on getting past 100 for the gunnners.

Isn't it a coincidence this week that three of the countries top strikers Henry, Van

Nistelrooy and Hasselbaink all had a shot of getting the ton.

Wenger comments on Henry not being a natural goalscorer may be true, but who

has been the top goalscorer for the gunners the last couple of seasons only mr va

va voom himself. No other Arsenal player consistently scores, Pires or Ljundberg

might make 10 a season thats it. Do Arsenal need a natural goalscorer?

I think Wenger's point is that they don't have an Ian Wright/Van Nistelrooy type who will score in the box kinda. I mean I can't remember the last time I saw Arsenal go to the end line, swing in a cross and score a diving header or something.

Jeffers was bought to do that, that worked out well ;)

he did the diving part of the diving header alright :D

Although speaking in the past tense, his time is not finished at Arsenal yet. Most people have immediately assume he'll be fucked off to some average premiership side or to Scotland at the end of the season (which may well happen), but he's still young, and if he rediscovers form... who knows.

yeah arse really need a top class "fox in the box" striker just to give Henry a break sometimes........

.....so what does Wenger do only go out and buy some spanish midget for 20 million who "plays in the hole", more like Henry's hole.

Id like to see someone like Maakay, Inzaghi or Tristan play for them and see how they get on in all competitions.

Jeffers never did amount to much but i think he needs to be shot. Its his fault that he everton are out of the fa cup. they should have won it by about 3 all scored by him

Nice achievement for any player but its hardly record breaking considering it has take him four and a half years to accomplish.

His league average is 21 goals a season as I said its a nice achievment but its hardly record breaking.

I don't see any mention of record breaking in the original post, or indeed any other post in this thread, except your disparaging one of course. 100 goals for a club is a notable milestone, and four and a half seasons is a very decent time in which to achieve it for any striker.

Yes we know Denis Law and Van Nistelrooy did it faster for Manchester United, but God forbid an achievement by someone not playing for the Galactic Lords of Football should be mentioned here.

Who said there was. Just Giving my opinion if you don't like it, tough. Get over it.

Sure, ignore the rest of the post. He doesn't play for Man U so his goals aren't worth as much. Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one. Why is it that the opinion of a Manchester United supporter always seems to be that if a player doesn't play for Man U, his achievements don't count?

  • Registered Users Posts: 257 ✭✭ether

You can compare Henry and Van Nistelrooy until your blue in the face, both are great

players at what they do. Ok VN got to 100 first, great and in less games super.

Henry took longer but didn't he provide while doing it, I don't know if I can

remember any really memorable VN goals. Sure hands down he is a world class

player in the box where he belongs, Henry plays wide, scores free kicks and even

takes corners. Man U were right to bring in someone like Saha to take a load off VN

in the goalscoring dept, but thats primarily what he does. Just think of what

Henry and Kluivert can do if he is coming next season.

    There's an obvious answer to that . . . anyone ? ;)

Ether - Just wondering, why do you use double spacing?

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

It's the premiership ton Henry got incidently, he's scored about 140 goals for Arsenal altogether. RVN got the ton for UTD in all competitions, he has about 70 prem goals so far.

    Have people here forgotten that:

Henry's 100 goals were in the Premiership

RVN's 100 goals were for United

Also, only Shearer got the Premiership ton in less games than henry. Incredible for a player who provides as many assists as any player in the league also.

Henry has been at Arsenal since 1999. 101 league goals = 16.8 goals per year.

Ruud is at United since 2001. 73 league goals = 18.25 goals per year.

    Now your point was . . . . ?

Perhaps that RVN hasn't scored 100 goals in the prem yet? Though i do know how you love to try and prove how great your team is at every available opportunity.

    Assists???

True but by the time he has been in United as long as Henry has been with Arsenal he will have I'm sure.
    Assists????

OK got me there . . I'll go check and get back to you but I'm sure it wont have been as many though.

Typical ofsome of the Arsenal supporters to bring this thread down to a Arsenal V Utd slagging match. My point was that it was nice to achieve his 100 league goals for his club but lots of other players have done the same, Its nothing special. I never mentioned UTD but because I didn't get excited over a non achievement the ranting starts.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one.

Exactly , so grow up guys and learn to accept that opinions differ.

To be fair to Henry, I think you should take into account he was a left winger when he joined Arsenal, not a striker, his achievement is enhanced by the fact he spent the first season "learning" the striking role.

Van Nist on the other hand was a proven out and out striker when he was bought by Utd.

Well, I think they both contribute to their strengths in the optimal way for their respective teams (diplomatic, eh?). Van Nist is a box player, he scores nearly all his goals from the box and his contribution in holding up the ball and his movement in the box certainly helps others. Henry scores just about from anywhere (even with his head once or twice) and his assist ratio is incredible considering his scoring feat with that.

One thing I do think is that if they switched teams, they would probably both play better, as Arsenal service is alot better, but lacks a world class poacher/finisher (unless you count Franny) while Henry's assists and skill would probably reap dividends alongside Scholes & Giggs and maybe even one day Ronaldo (but not quite yet). Even better is whatthe two of them would be like together....maybe at Real next year

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 252 ✭✭elbow316

hehe maybe Henry and Van Nist will both be at Real next year.....along with pele, maradonna and george Best :D

I thought your were too busy with your mid life crisis to be bothering with such mundane things as soccer.Did ya Buy the combats yet?:D

This thread is going down the road of Ruud v Henry which was debated to death here very recently. They are different types of players and both world class .

But Ruud Is the better striker.;)
