Rail Authority signs new Luas contract
    13/02/2004 - 4:51:52 pm

The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) has today entered into a five-year contract with a joint venture of Alstom Ireland and Dalkia for maintenance of LUAS infrastructure.

The contract covers routine and corrective maintenance of the physical infrastructure and is for a period of five years with an option to extend for another five.

Payments to the contractor will be related to measured performance against agreed criteria.

The RPA will transfer responsibility for managing the Infrastructure Maintenance Contract to Connex Ireland who will have overall responsibility for operating and maintaining LUAS.

Connex is the transport division of Veolia Environment and is Europe's largest private passenger transport company.

Alstom and Dalkia have begun mobilisation of the infrastructure maintenance team and appropriate maintenance arrangements are already in place for infrastructure that has been completed.

Alstom Ireland is a subsidiary of French parent Alstom which builds electricity generating plans as well as TGV high-speed trains, rail signaling equipment, cruise ships and marine equipment.

The company employs 118,000 people in 17 countries.

Facilities, utilities and energy management company Dalkia employs 160 staff in Ireland and nearly 38,000 employees in 30 countries world-wide.
