I just saw a Ford D-series flatbed lorry near Enfield yesterday. It was carrying bags of coal. It wasn't in great condition - rear suspension looked to be knackered as it was bouncing around a lot, also the engine was very smoky and noisy. Still it was good to see one of them on the road. There were over half a million of these lorries sold between 1965 and 1981 and they were a very common sight on Irish roads, but have all but vanished now. Here is some info and pics:

It's a similar story with old Bedfords, Leylands, AECs, Fodens and Seddon-Atkinsons etc. They used to be common, but have now seemingly disappeared.

Of course, people do collect and restore classic lorries. There is a fair bit of this in the UK, dunno about over here. But something like a Ford D-series would probably not be old enough (yet) to be very sought after.

So is anyone here into old lorries and have ye any sightings of older commercial vehicles on the roads in this country.
