I know the first thing that pops into your head when you read this is "Lazy bastard, just use google" well Ive tried and with no great succes, maybe "stupid basterd" would be more fitting.

Anyway I was just hoping somebody could give me up to date figures on the death toll in Iraq since the war began. What Im really interested is cizilian, allied and iraqi resistance and if at all posible divided in to before and after Bush said the war is over.
Thanks a million to anybody who can help me.

Iraq Body Count is a good site, so youre sorted there. Also related might be The Iraq Action Group however a lot of links they quote from dont seem to work but a bit of googling should hopefully find the source.

To help out I tried looking for the document for this one
"4,500 children under the age of 5 are dying each month from hunger and disease. The situation is disastrous for children. Many are living on the very margin of survival." -- UNICEF, October 1996.

It looks like unicefs digitised documents and press releases only go back as far as 1999. Googling the above quote gets you a scary number of hits though, who are also quoting it. Most are political pamphlets and so and thus not trustworthy. A couple of the more believable ones are

    http://www.doctorsworldwide.org/projects/iraq.htm

    http://www.gulf-news.com/Articles/opinion.asp?ArticleID=30402

Looking through the links I saw claims that up to 1.2 million people including 750,000 children were killed by the imposition of sanctions and their continued enforcement prior to the war. I dont know how accurate that is.

This was a prominent document in the lead-up to the war, predicting the potential effects on civilian mortality of a full-scale war, both in theatre and post-conflict. And here's a reply to the leaked UN document.

And this is an amazing in-depth study of the effect of sanctions and Saddam's regime on post-1991 war Iraq. The importance of this article is that he links infant mortality directly to a general situation vis-a-vis Gulf War I because child mortality (children being dependents) are reliable indicators of the effects of war and sanctions on the general population in terms of health and quality of life.

Sorry I couldn't dig up more recent figures for post-2003 Iraq war, but I don't have time.

I laughed when I read it. Seemed quoteworthy to me at least.
