Sorry for this being a few days late but I have been very busy of recent and havent been at home enough to keep you regularly updated. Here is the most recent community update from the Battlefield 1942 team.
    2/13/04 - Community Update

Map Contest - We have our winners!
It took longer than we anticipated to get through all 130+ submissions for the map contest. The quantity and quality meant we had to take extra care that we selected maps which combined gameplay and visual quality. We'll be contacting the winners first, and then we'll make our public announcement. The turnout for the map contest was exceptional and everyone should be proud of their efforts.

    Mod News
Lot's of questions are being asked about the differences between Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam as far as modders are concerned. We've taken a moment to put together a small FAQ to answer the major questions. More detailed information will follow....

.. Q: Has the CON file format changed?
.. A: The addition of shader manipulation abilities in the .rs files is probably one of the biggest changes. Other than that, some additional lines were added for new functionality, like airlifiting and the new helicopter.

.. Q: What are some of the new things modders will be able to use in BFV?
.. A: Two of the most exciting visual additions is normal mapping on objects and new under/overgrowth system. Neither of these is required in BFV...but adding them will increase the visual impact of your mods.

.. Q: What is this new undergrowth and overgrowth system?
.. A: Essentially, it's just two new material maps you add to populate your map with objects. It's used for both outdoors for trees and bushes and indoors with crates, chairs, etc.

.. Q: Will DICE and EA be releasing mod tools for Battlefield Vietnam?
.. A: Yes, BFV will ship in the box with Battlecraft Vietnam, an updated map editor, and an updated Mod Development Toolkit.

From Official Battlefield: Vietnam FAQ page

Also a final bit of news, this bad news though. It has emerged form EA/DICE that there will be no Demo released for Battlefield: Vientnam like there was for Battlefield: 1942. Its not to much of a problem seeing as though BF: V will be released in a little over a month (Now set for 20th March), but nevertheless it is a bit annoying. We all wanted to get into a Huey and blast around Apocolypse Now style.
    Thats all for now :)

I cannot wait for BFV....I tried the choppers in the raid on aghelia map and I was scoring quite a few kills (especially on the fully loaded mobile spawn carrier lol) but yeah, looks damn cool and with my new bb conn about to go things are looking up :]

I don't know how the helo's are to control in DC but those little buggers wernt too bad..just takes a little getting used too and I think maybe the hueys will be easier!
