If you fail your full licence test do you go straight back to the start of the waiting list again?

A friend of mine was waiting 12 months to sit his test and failed it first time last Friday - does he have to wait another year to sit it again??

    Thanks.

Kinda. He will have to go back on the list, but there are some options. When applying, your friend could opt to expedite it if the provisional licence is due for renewal before the 12 months waiting period (section 7 of hardcopy licence). There has always been a facility for opting to take a cancellation but notice period can be short; a few days or so.

But firstly your friend needs to get himself some lessons. Seriously. A qualified instructor will give proper advice on how to drive and pass the test. Your friend should apply for the test (a cancellation) only when the instructor advises them.

I believe there is also a fast-track process for people who need a full licence for a job. (Perhaps that explains the poor standard of driving for taxi drivers / white-van-man!)

I don't know about the licence renewal thing. If he says that he recently did a test, then that doesn't apply, because the red cert will allow him to get a 2-year licence.

Afaik, they've stopped allowing people ring up and say they'll take a cancellation, and the only way now is to get a letter from an employer - the website says it must have headed paper and the employer's VAT no., so if you have self-employed friends or family, they may be able to help you there. ;)

You could also get your mate to get a letter from there employer (if they are working ) saying that they need to drive for the jo and its very important they have a full license for insurance reasons this cut my time bye more than half .
