    Hi,

    My internet connection seems to work in fits and starts. It will work fine for a while, then seems to take a rest, and will not transmit or receive data for a few minutes. It then starts again for a while, then stops.............etc.

    OS - Win98SE
    Modem - Creative Labs 56K External Serial modem
    ISP - Eircom free
    Sygate Personal Firewall

    Any suggestions would be very welcome.

    Thanks.

    ST.

    It's not the ISP.

    Try the ever reliable modem string +MS=V34

    START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL -> MODEMS -> PROPERTIES -> CONNECTION -> ADVANCED... Type +MS=V34 there.

    Sounds like a dodgy modem.

    Make sure your modem cable is smaller than 6 foot.

    Also, ring 1901 and get your line tested.
