Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ah well, when we beat Brazil later it should boost us up the table.

They're rubbish in the air, hopefully we can get Kilbane, Cunningham, Dunne and O'Shea in the box to do some damage.

No doubt! but most teams in the top 15/20 would give each other a tough game.

The one i'm not sure about is Mexico at 5 ??????

I'd love to see the best Irish 11 play the best England 11 but chances are that'll never happen.

    Mike.

FIFA's ranking system has always been suspect because they use it as an incentive to drive the uptake of football in less developed regions (football-wise). They give massive amounts of points for the African Nations Cup and the Asian Cup, aswell as the Copa America. I assume thats why Mexico are so highly placed.

Having said that, it was interesting to note the performance of the Asian teams in the World Cup. Until now, they've always been forced to play outside of their normal environment, usually against European and South American teams playing in their own environment. Whether Asian football is really that far behind the rest of the world is questionable. It'll be interesting to see the 2010 World Cup in Africa...

I haven't read any other posts so this has probably been said already. Ireland were 14th, they are now 15th!

Its the other way round the brackets are what they were before, the other way would make no sense.

"Sven-Goran Eriksson's team has risen one place since last month, with Brazil, France and Spain still occupying the top three places."

    7 (8) England 740

"Republic of Ireland rise one place to 14th, with Scotland and Wales each dropping two places, to 53rd and 67th, and Northern Ireland still 124th."

    14 (15) Rep of Ireland 709

Its all very simple really, in the brackets = old position

Of course thats according to the bbc, fifa would obviously know better, so the bbc's method is correct just the info iss a bit suspect

From Northern Irelands Point of view there are some shocking teams above them- Benin and lesotho anyone?

Ireland were 14th last month and they have fell to 15th. The BBC have made a mistake.

any1 know how the points work? is it the same as the most leagues, ie 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw? and is there more points for world cup games etc?

it's too complex - and not accurate

I don't mean to cause an argument by saying this (as usually happens) but the rankings are out every month and this is only the second time I've seen a topic on boards about it. I would probably understand the topic being up if we actually played this month and we moved up or dropped at least a couple of places.
