Komplettt are doing a nice one,

    €125 before delivery.

256Mb but its also a radio and an mp3 player!!!

    USB1.1

Yeah - Komplett have a nice 128MB one for 44e - but charge 9.80 for delivery - sounds a bit much for something small and light.

Compustore have one on their site for 55e but when I dropped in today the guy showed me one for 65e and when I asked if it was their cheapest he said it was :(

I think USB 2.0 is worth paying a bit more for as its massively faster than 1.1. Though having a music player and a radio on the same device would be v.handy.

I picked one up in PC World for 55e yesterday - 128MB USB 2.0 :)

Same as komplett but without the wait really - they had nice radio-mp3-storage ones but were over 100e and I didn't feel the need.

All the radio-mp3-storage ones I've seen are usb 1.1 too

Some info: Sanda Benchmarks attached for two 1.1 and two 2.0 usb drives.

Thats what I thought - but these are some of the built in comparisons that came with Sandra.

My Medion USB 1.1 benched faster than many of the USB 2.0 drives for smaller files
(sorry - not shown in that graph). But at big files even the worst USB 2.0 is min four times faster.

There do seem to be some cheap and slow usb 2.0 drives out there.:dunno:

    Strange - gits.

Mine plugs in directly and there's also a cable with it - is that for USB 2.0 or in case you can't insert it directly? Didn't notice a speed difference between using it or not.

You only get Usb2.0 speeds of course if your laptop/pc has Usb2.0 ports. Otherwise it runs as 1.1
Cable is just an extension to save you getting behind the pc.

How long does it take you to copy a large file (eg 4mb)??

Not long, copied over 110MB in around a minute.

Took 3 mins to copy that onto my Laptop.

That's running at usb1 then, usb 2 should do it in well under a min., only new laptops seem to have usb 2. I'm told it's faster than firewire too.

Or if you wont be carrying it everywhere ... you could pick up a usb 2.0 case (€25 delivered) and a laptop drive (I got a 40GB drive here in boards for €60 or €65) ... it works perfectly ... problem is that most computers are usb1.1 ...so copying a movie on to it takes ~10 minutes ... copying on to the new laptop at work takes ~1 hour because dell are muppets (new work laptop bought in November last year)
