I need to tow or have towed a classic 70's beetle (for restoration) from Ballyfermot to Celbridge (12 miles). Does any one know where I could get my hands on\get a loan of\rent a flatbed trailer or a towing 'dolly'. There is a problem with the steering and possible brakes so towing with rope\chain is outta the question. I have a towbar on my own car.
    Any ideas or recommendations appreciated.
    Thanks. :)

About three years ago...rented a box trailer for a couple of days and it turned out much cheaper than expected.

On the subject of trailers: if you rent a flatbed trailer, make sure that you have the correct licence for it. Check your Design Gross Vehicle Weights etc. You'll probably need an EB licence for towing a Beetle on a flatbed trailer plus you'll need a large saloon or 4wd to tow it safely.

Many people on the roads are towing large trailers without having the correct licence. Not only is it illegal, but they probably wouldn't be covered by their insuracne if they had a crash. Also, loads of people ignore the rule that you should never tow a trailer which is heavier than the weight of the towing vehicle. The other day I saw some muppet towing a Toyota Avensis on a hefty flatbed trailer. Towing vehicle was a Toyota Corolla....
