Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Anderton and Giggs are right!!

Butt and Scholes though are wrong, they haven't played in EVERY priemership season 1992-2004 inclusive!!!

Martin Keown and Roy Keane joined their clubs in 93. Was that not the start of the premiership?

If I remember correectly, this question was asked on one of the footy programmes on TV recently. They wanted 6 players.

The four I can remember for definite are:

    Anderton
    Parlour
    Giggs
    Jason Dodd (Southampton)

    I don't think Kelly featured.

If I had to choose right now I'd say Butt and Keown. Definitely not Scholes, made his league debut in 1994.

Also, from the Man U website:
Apart from Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt was the first of Fergie's Fledglings to break into the first team.

yes but butt didnt play as much games as giggs that season of 92/93

Man U site says Butt made his debut in 1992 as a sub for Ince. Doesn't say league/cup, so its debateable. But I reckon its him.

Martin Keown rejoined Arsenal early 1993, so he may be the other as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,305 ✭✭✭jobonar

yeah thats them all!! Butt was still in the famous utd youth team in the first prem season & wasn't in the 1st team, sorry has to be in the league butt's appearance in '92 was a coca-cola cup game!!

    Ray Parlour
    Jason Dodd
    Gary Kelly
    Ryan Giggs
    Darren Anderton

there were 7 players but as far as i know the other 2 have left their clubs but can't for the life of me remember who they were!! anybody know them???

  • Registered Users Posts: 553 ✭✭✭phenom

    seaman is one of them.
    and maybe john robinson ex-charlton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,305 ✭✭✭jobonar

can't be seaman he played for Man City this year!!!

Nor Robinson, Charlton haven't been prem team every season...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Right, its not Gary Kelly. As already stated, he didn't play 92-93 season:

    http://www.leedsfans.org.uk/leeds/players/464.html

Its Nicky Butt, if this is to be believed:

    http://www.soccerage.com/en/04/06285.html

    And Keown I believe:

    http://www.soccerage.com/en/04/02157.html

The last one says Keown played for Arsenal and Everton in the 92-93 season. (they also call the league the Premier League pre-92, but we won't hold that against them.)

    So, do we agree?

Anderton, Dodd, Giggs, Parlour, Butt and Keown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,305 ✭✭✭jobonar

gary kelly - if you read the table right you'd see that he made 2 sub apps for leeds 92/93 season so he is one!!

nicky butt - i agree(under protest, i'm sure it was a league cup match!!)

martin keown - it can't be cos he played for BOTH arsenal AND everton(can only have played for 1 team in the premiership and he's played for 2 like you said!!!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

OK, I'll give you Keown, though I'm nearly sure he was named in the six players I was told about..

I won't give you Kelly. The table says he played (league):

    1991 - 1992 0(2)

    1993 - 1994 42

    It leaves out 1992 - 1993 altogether.

If we leave out Keown (and include Butt) then we have the original 5 you asked for, yeah? And thats me done with it...:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭bucks73

Francis Benali would have been included last season but he has not made any appearances this season.

Heard this one a few months ago and the answers were:

    Ryan Giggs
    Nicky Butt
    Ray Parlour
    Jason Dodd
    Darren Anderton

Gary Kelly missed the whole 98/99 season with injury and Keown left Arsenal for Everton in 92 for 13 games.

Why is a thread about English soccer on an Irish message board called "True footy fans"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

And why not? I'd hate to think you assume everybody who uses the board is Irish...

So then, is it the question that has been asked incorrectly or the answer that is wrong ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Question wrong, answer right (that make sense?:D )

Jobonar asked the question. He was sure Butt wasn't one of the five, and that Gary Kelly was one. Already been shown that Kelly missed an entire season.

Nicky Butt made his debut against Oldham as a 2nd half sub for Paul Ince in a league fixture in November 2002. His only appearance that year, but enough to qualify.

So, there are five players, and two are from the same club...

Yah I'd heard the question at the start of the season and the answer was the one arrived at here.
