do yourself a favour - buy a creative zen nx. Better life, bigger storage, cheaper.

in all fairness guys he asked for the cheapest ipod not alternatives.

if you want the cheapest ipod you'll have to look towards the states as the euro is strong against the dollar.

the prices in ireland are pretty much fixed by apple so most place sell them at same price

According to Froogle, the cheapest place to get an iPod online is here, at $465, which equates to roughly €374. Not sure about shipping etc, but check it out, along with any other decently-priced websites Froogle comes up with.

Apple don't allow US stores to ship iPods (or any Apple gear) to Europe.

If you have friends or relatives in the US you could get it shipped to them and have them send it on to you.

While you are at it, you might want to take a look at the
    Iriver 40GB MP3 Player with FM Tuner IHP-140 .

It is almost exactly the same as the iPod (same weight and size), but IMHO it is much better (2 and a half times the battery life of the iPod, has a radio, optical and analog line in and out, can record to MP3 or Wav from the line in's or the builtin mic., better sound quality, 4 line LCD wired remote, the battery has a much longer lifetime (most iPod battery's need to be replaced after 18 months at a cost of $99).

I have the 20GB model, the iHP-120 and it is great, all my friends who have iPods are dead jealous and one even sold his iPod and bought a iHP-120 :)

Ive never met or heard of anyone anywhere who has owned an ipod and sold it for another MP3 player.

Well, rather then sold, I should have said that he returned it to the store where he bought it and got a iHP-120.

He is in the US and most electronic stores there allow you to buy something, test it for a few weeks and if you don't like it they will take it back (there is usually a restocking fee).

He bought the iPod in the US, came to Ireland and saw my iHP-120, he changed his iPod when he got back to the US.
