Panasonic DVD-S35 DVD/CD player

I am unable to set up player to show DVDs. Also the player will display only some JPEG digital photographs from a CD. The other pictures (mainly ones which have been edited or scanned) are not being shown, although they are in JPEG format. Any suggestions please.
