I was just trying to make a list of the top 10 rock (Not just metal) songs between 1989 and now. i'm looking for pretty popular mainstream stuff. (Nirvana, Guns and Roses etc.). It's for a story I'm writing. So post your lists.

    Easy

1: Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name of
2: System of a Down - Chop Suey
    3: Metallica - The Unforgiven
4: Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings
    5: Nirvana - Lithium
    6: Placebo - Nancy Boy
    7: White Stripes - 7 Nation Army
    8: Primal Scream - Jailbird
    9: Therapy - Screamager
10: Manic Street Preachers - A Design for Life

That's mine anyway, I'm sure people will argue, not least about the lack of Smells Like Teen Spirit. All of G'n'R's best stuff was written pre-1989...

Smells like teen spirit is overplayed.

...but while 'A Design For Life' is a magnificant song, Manics' best song, by far, is 'Motorcycle Emptiness'.

No offence intended dude...but if those are some of the best songs of the last 15 years..it must've been a pretty dull decade and a half.
If Alien ant farm's smooth criminal is ever voted as one of the best songs of the past 15 years, im going to take my guitars, burn them, throw my CD collection into the flames, buy myself a nice tracksuit, get 'Neilo' tattoed in chinese characters across my forearm and start listening to DJ Darndale. Possibly while 'Yoked outta me bin!!! rapa!!!'.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 528 ✭✭✭Chucky

:D ok, the whole Alien Antfarm was a bad idea.

All the other stuff is all mainstream which is what the guy in the original post asked for though so.....

    give us your list :)

Are you mad? I've never even heard of Rival Schools, and with a name like that I don't think I want to. And if you don't mind me saying so, neither Linkin Park nor Incubus have performed anything that would qualify in the top 10 tracks of the last 14 years. I thought Screamager by Therapy may have been pushing it but apparantly not...

May I say that 1996-1999 was a pretty dire streak for Rock.

I can't believe in a thread asking for the Top 10 mainstream rock songs of the last 15 years .. The Ramones got a mention .... obviously someone out there thinks the Ramones were a lot bigger than they actually were .... that is of course unless you're only basing it on the fact that ****in wanky shops like Urban Outfitters have deemed their shirts "cool" and have started selling them .... ****in sad , sad , sad .

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

Here's one I missed out on actually, and I haven't seen it mentioned.

    AC/DC - Thunderstruck

Wasn't that fantastic a track but it was quite a hit.
