dvd/cd rom trouble

just wondering if anyone has any ideas? if i have my dvd player and cd writer connected to my secondary ide (master and slave respectively) my computer wont boot (bar stops half way when windows is loading) If i just connect the dvd to the master computer boots and recognises the dvd If i just connect the master to the cd…
