Contention Ratio / Pings ?????

    Im a complete newbie with broadband. I know that it is alot a faster than the dreadful 56k but there are a few terms i dont know.

    Ok, i am thinking of going broadband with my new pc i have at home since christmas and apart from eircom putting me off getting in the phone line :mad: just for the net im ready to bite my tougue and take the plunge.

    What is these pings I hear in the other threads ? and contention ratios ??

    I think I will go for UTV e29.99 a month package. The contention ratio is 48:1......is that ok??what ever it is..

    See the IOFFL DSL Page for an explanationof all the different terms and a comparison of the different products available.

    You only really need to worry about pings if you plan to play a lot of games on the internet or have some other specialised use such as VPN and VNC.

    Otherwise UTV should be fine for you.
