There'll be some downtime later on this morning for some upgrading and maintenance of the webserver.

All going well it'll be back in the time it takes for you to get yourself a cuppa!

    Hardware or software upgrade?

Nope, you should have backed it up this morning.

"FreeBSD Memory Buffer Exhaustion Denial of Service Vulnerability"

    Fair enough :)

As an aside, any chance of a page (maybe under the "boards.ie" drop-down menu) describing the hardware/software config of Boards.ie (obviously not exact program version numbers etc.)?

I actually don't know what the hardware is.

Roughly the current setup is two machines, both running FreeBSD 4.9
Webserver is apache 1.3 and php4, both close enough to up to date. php has a few bells and whistles enabled to let the webmail and other stuff work. Database is mysql 3.something, again close enough to up to date but not quite there.

Pretty bog standard for a vbulletin setup ...

Only slightly unusual thing we have is that mysql is built with linux threads rather than linking with the native freebsd threading libraries. mysql and freebsd don't like each other normally :)

Oh, we also run mail services, courtesy of qmail and qmail-pop3d and DNS services using tinydns.

Muppet (webserver) is a Dell 2450 with two Pentium 3 733 CPUs and 1 GB of ram. Wang (database server) is a Dell 2450 with two pentium 3 933 CPUs and 1.75 GB of ram. Both enjoy RAID 1. Who needs Xeons or Opterons? :D

MySQL is actually version 4.x, the query cache is very nice.

We'll upgrade to FreeBSD 5.x and Apache 2 later in the year.

Oh, I'm the DJB fanboy too :)

I said 3.x because it failed to recognise an SQL UNION for me the other day, which is why a certain feature I promised isn't working ...
