Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Celtic v Barcelona
    Genclerbirligi v Valencia
    Bordeaux v Club Brugge
    Newcastle United v Mallorca
    Auxerre v PSV Eindhoven
    Internazionale v Benfica
    Liverpool v Marseille
    Villarreal v Roma

It would be hard to predict any of these matches, who do you think will go through?

[edit] I cant delete the thread.:(

Have to agree with Uberwolf . Liverpool fans will be happy enough at the draw

    NEWCASTLE v Real Mallorca

Could have been a lot worse anyway. I'd be reasonably hopeful.

Predictions to go through to quarters:

    Celtic v Barcelona Celtic
Genclerbirligi v Valencia Valencia (this is a hard one to predict, that Turkish team look very good)
    Bordeaux v Club Brugge Bordeaux
    Newcastle United v Mallorca Mallorca
    Auxerre v PSV Eindhoven PSV
    Internazionale v Benfica Inter
    Liverpool v Marseille Liverpool
    Villarreal v Roma Roma

I'm happy with Celtics draw, should be a good match.

Aye, It will be a hard one. If Celtic played the first leg away it would be a lot easier in my opinion. Although, if you look at Celtic's results in the last year in the CL and Uefa Cup, they usually always beat the team by a bigger margin at home than they would get beaten away (if you know what I mean).

    CL 2003:
    Home: Celtic 3-1 Anderlecht
    Away: Anderlecht 1-0 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 3-2 Anderlecht

    Home: Celtic 0-0 Bayern
    Away: Bayern 2-1 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 1-2 Bayern

    Home: Celtic 2-0 Lyon
    Away: Lyon 3-2 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 4-3 Lyon

    UEFA cup 02/03:
    Home: Celtic 8-1 Suduva
    Away: Suduva 0-2 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 10-1 Suduva

    Home: Celtic 2-0 Blackburn
    Away: Blackburn 0-1 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 3-0 Blackburn

    Home: Celtic 1-0 Celta Vigo
    Away: Celta Vigo 2-1 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 2-2 Celta Vigo

    Home: Celtic 3-1 Stuttgart
    Away: Stuttgart 3-2 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 5-4 Stuttgart

    Home: Celtic 1-1 Liverpool
    Away: Liverpool 0-2 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 3-1 Liverpool

    Home: Celtic 1-1 Boavista
    Away Boavista 0-1 Celtic
    Agg: Celtic 2-1 Boavista

So all that tells you is that Celtic have only lost once over two legs since the start of 2003 in Europe and that was against Bayern which IMO Celtic at least deserved a draw on aggregate.

    1 Celtic v Barcelona - Barcelona
    2 Genclerbirligi v Valencia - Valencia
    3 Bordeaux v Club Bruges - Bordeaux
    4 Newcastle v Real Mallorca - Newcastle
5 Auxerre v PSV Eindhoven PSV
    6 Inter Milan v Benfica - Inter
    7 Liverpool v Marseille Liverpool
    8 Villarreal v Roma - Roma

    Quarter-final ties

    1 Bourdeaux v Valencia - Valencia
2 Liverpool v Inter - Liverpool (on both teams form in last round)
    3 Barcelona v Roma - Barcelona
    4 PSV v Newcastle - PSV

    Semi-final matches

1 PSV v Liverpool - Liverpool to edge to in second leg at Anfield
2 Barcelona v Valenica - Valencia to do the same

    Final

Liverpool v Valencia - Very tough to call - form goes out the window (as it were)

    LIVERPOOL :)

If Liverpool win the UEFA cup I will cry, they are such a poor side, but the UEFA really is a poor tournament. A B standard in Europe if you ask me, I think Valencia will win it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 175 ✭✭bdiddy

I reckon PSV'll give it a right go but Barca will win it out. They've alot to prove and while the UEFA cup is crap, it could act as a launching pad to get them back on thier feet. hope i'm wrong and Celtic beat them.

    My predictions:

    1 Celtic v Barcelona - Barcelona
    2 Genclerbirligi v Valencia - Valencia
    3 Bordeaux v Club Bruges - Bordeaux
    4 Newcastle v Real Mallorca - Newcastle
    5 Auxerre v PSV Eindhoven - Auxerre
    6 Inter Milan v Benfica - Inter
    7 Liverpool v Marseille - Liverpool
    8 Villarreal v Roma - Roma

    Quarter-final ties

    1 Bourdeaux v Valencia - Valencia
    2 Liverpool v Inter - Liverpool
    3 Barcelona v Roma - Roma
    4 Auxerre v Newcastle - Newcastle

    Semi-final matches

1 Newcastle v Liverpool - Liverpool to win in Anfield and draw in St James
2 Roma v Valenica - Roma defence is in great form

    Final

Liverpool v Roma - Liverpool, Roma have been unable to beat them in recent years when it counted(I mean the second leg in Anfield in 2001)

    LIVERPOOL

Liverpool got a very good draw, managing to avoid Barcelona, Roma and Celtic until the semi-finals. Houllier will have done his homework on the french competition too, so they've a good chance of going all the way.

Yep its a pretty decent draw though quite how Liverpool are seeded while Celtic arn't beats me!

Are any channels apart from channel 5 going to televise the matches. It's all getting quite interesting now and i'd like to be able to see the big matches live

I just don't think Celtic are in the same league as Barcelona, and imo Barcelona are Champions League quality :)

How long did it take you to figure that one out? Spain is a long way away from Scotland.:D ;)

Celtic are Champions League quality, they just have to sort themselves out a bit. They weren't far off this year and will be back again next season. They've been having a better year so far than Barca but i still reckon Barca will come through. it'll be tough for Celtic to hold thier own at the Nou Camp.

Barca are unbeaten or have won their last 7 matches. It looks like Davids has changed thier fortunes.

    Why arent celtic seeded?

Becasue they are crap. Liverpool are seeded because the play in a top league week in week out and are the most sucessful british club in europe.

Why are so many people blind?

Marseille is a tricky tie for Liverpool. Although obviously it could have been worse, Marseille are a competent team who performed quite well in their Champions League group and where unlucky not to get through.

Whereas Liverpool are b****x. I can see Marseille winning, sure Liverpool can't even beat a Portsmouth side missing 14 first team players even with a virtually full strength squad.

Really hope they show the Celtic v Barcelona matches on BBC3. Hopefully they'll be as entertaining as a lot of Celtic's UEFA cup games were last season.
    (PS I'm a Liverpool fan :D)

As a Pool fan I'm happy enough with the draw. As an outside bet I think PSV at 16-1 is worth a punt. I got €20 on Bayern at 28-1 to win CL. Forever the dreamer. Mind you last time I put money on Bayern to win CL, they got to the 89th minute of me picking up £1000+. Damn that Solskjaer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 147 ✭✭JippoKelly

That day was probably the worst day of my life. The Man Ure fans boasting the next day in school was awful. Fecking Solskjaer and Sheringham.

Although when Abel Xavier needlessly handled the ball in Euro 2000 in the last minute and cost me a potential 200 Euro I felt pretty ****. And then Liverpool had to go and sign him!!!
