Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Being a few years since I was there but it's a nice city, nightlife didn't seem all that great but I was with the ex so didn't try to hard to find places.

One word of warning, there is a lot of gay bars so be careful!!!!

maybe smithers likes the gay bars
theres very good bars in the centre of brussels but its very hard to find them, just wander around
schuman is the area where all the irish bars are, some open till 7am, taxi's arent expensive

Brussels is a bit on the lame side for decent nightlife, 45mins by train will get you to Brugge, much more lively there at weekends, good selection of bars & clubs. This place in Brussels is worth going to though...

.Le Cercueil - The Coffin: Depending on your taste you might enjoy this bar. It is very dark, the tables are made of coffins, the lamp shades are coffins the whole place is a bit scaryt. They have a big list of cocktails with very weird names. Beer is served is a 'scull' (pottery shaped mug of a scull). Nice place to go to for a chat, because the music is not loud, place is quiet, small and cosy. The coffin is also called the 'tourist trap' because it is mentioned in every guidebook about brussels and is extremely expensive.

Celtica is your best if your looking to get really pissed, Brussels is great, drink in the schuman area till around 3am then head to celtica till 7am and then all the other pubs open. Thursday night tends to be the best.

Extremely expensive, very small and not much fun. It's worth seeing for the creepyness but don't buy a drink there.

My advice, start in the schuman area, then head to celtica.

you could try and not be a typical irish retard and actually drink in some non-irish pubs...aahh I'm only joking, whenever you go abroad you should only ever drink in irish bars, its almost like not leaving home at all.

The only good Belgian bar I know in Brussels is shooters, but Belgian culture is not about drinking, so there is no point in going to a Belgian bar (except shooters for the moritos). To experience Brussels goto the grand place, visit the Royal palace generally do some sightseeing, that way you can experience a bit of Belgium and in the evening go and have a bit of fun in an Irish(or British) bar, cause that is what our culture is about and we do bars better than other people.

Drinking in an Irish bar is not just like being at home, it's Brussels, so nearly everyone is a foreigner (Belgians don't seem to exist), there are Euro coins from every part of the union and the pubs stay open all hours. Parts of Brussels are really impressive and I would recommend doing some sightseeing and not just drinking and if you can, check out the motorways over there, crash barriers down the middle, 3 lanes each way and lighting on the whole motorway network. Trains are as equally impressive.

    Just a tad -

It's one of these places that looks like a two up two down council huose - but is actually a huge club/bar - but great atmosphere!

Belgium is great in the summer, they have a festival on nearly every weekend (the summer I was there anyway).

L'atelier - in ixelles, brewery place, 300 beers
La Tarvernier - in ixelles aswell, big pub, full of nice people, open till 5am near weekend
Place Ferdinard Coque - lots of small pubs and jazz bars
Unpronounceable bar near the manakin pi in the centre
    Mappa - behind O'Reilleys
    etc, etc

Forget drinking pints of german/dutch import, try the belgian beers...
    Duvel
    Boush
    Kriek
    Chimay Blue

Go explore instead of sittin in Irish pubs, theres over 600 different types of beer available, they only difference is they don't tend to go binge drinking like the Irish and English cos of the late opening hours. Of course if you're one of those irish people who gets homesick after 15 mins there's plenty of Irish pubs which will leave you with an empty wallet and a bad impression of the city.
