Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ireland can become Unofficial Football World Champions

Watching Ireland beating the World Champions in rugby today got me thinking about the last time Ireland were the "Unofficial Football World Champions".

It was in 1977 when we beat France 1-0.

The current Unofficial Football World Champions are the Czech Republic (see here: http://www.ufwc.co.uk/). So, if we beat them in the friendly on March 31st, we could be Unofficial World Champions of rugby and soccer in the one month!

its a stupid concept : but anyway, if you follow it : beating France would not make us unofficial world champions, as the Czech Republic currently holds that "illustrious" title.

Think you're missing the point there. If we beat the Czech Republic on the 31st we WILL become unofficial champions. He wasn't talking about playing France

Whats even weirder is England haven't held it since 1975! All the other major nations seem to have won it at least once over the past 10 years or so.

Also before we go blowing our own trumpets at our success it might be worth bearing in mind that such footballing world powers as Australia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru have held the title at one time or another.

All that said tho heres hoping we win the title at the end of the month! :)

AFAIK it was the winner of the first ever match.

According to the site, only if the current UFWC are beaten does the title change hands.
