Was reading about the phone scam in the business section of the sunday world. It says that you get a missed call from a number starting with 0709.

The victim calls the number and it costs €75 a min.

Surely this is nonsense as the dearest calls are about €6 a min?

    Any comments?

It is complete ****e . The only phone scams in Ireland are the porndialer group 13 number on Eircom for €3 a minute and the spoof texts that 'ínvite' you to repsond to a 1580 number on the grounds you won something, about €3 a minute again.

The €6 numbers are Sat phones like Inmarsat

The 070 myth comes from the UK where the calls actually cost about UK 0.30 a minute .

    Complete hokum like Muck said.

Snopes even have a recent page all about it. And obviously it's a variant on this hoax. Did the Sunday World actually report it as fact? (if so do they have a "you are an poor excuse for a 'journalist'" email address?)
