Sonic Adventure eh, you'd think by now they would have forgotten the speedy antics of that frenetic little spikeball. No. they have gone and tried to do it better, in 3d, with 3d worlds more vast and hi-res than anything in Mario 64, the games only real competitor.
The game is fast, definitely, but it seems to have lost something during the development process. The old megadrive games were absolute classics, hours could be spent playing them. I suppose it just cant be done that good in 3d.
The opening levels are pretty nice graphically, albeit a little linear, but once you open up the other levels in the city you find more variety in the design. One of my favourite parts was the Nights pinball game in the casino, that is an amazing peice of game design.
The fast paced racing bits are generally quite fun and fast but sometimes it gets a little irritating when u keep bashing into the sides of the rails and such-like. The sky areas are a lots better for fast paced running however, as there are no rails, u just keep moving fast to stay up.
Another part of the game which was ingenious was the different characters that you could use. One of the characters, Big The Cat, is just plain weird. He is a huge cat with a fishing rod, another good one is the robot with the assault rifle, as well as the usual Tails and Knuckles, all these unlockable throughout the game. Also the Chaos are weird little creatures, kind of like tamagotchi's but these soon become boring.
Overall, though, this is an enjoyable game with great graphics and gameplay, but it just doesn't live up to its ancestors. This game would be brilliant if they had worked on it for a bit more time like Mario 64. I give it 78%
