    nah the original enterprise was a constitution class star ship iirc, however there was u.s.s constellation that was a constitution class ship again iirc and that is confusing

    What does IIRC mean?

    It is confusing, yes i think the ambasador was a command and control.

    Where do u draw the line between Galaxy and solverign, I think sovy is a dreadnought and Galaxy is command and control.

    Defiant is offically a escort ship.

    iirc = if i recall correctly which i use when i think i'm right but am not sure about something and someone could come back and whip my ass :)

    i'm not up on ship classification if you know what i mean like, escort, warship etc. tbh

    Aye Soverign is a Dreadnought, Galaxy and Ambassador are C&C but i'm put off about the Defiant class being classed as an Escort class. However the first generation Defiant class aren't that good tbh. 2nd Generation Defiant rock, the USS Monitor invaded Unimatrix Zero and gave the Borg a right spanking.

    The defiant is a escort ship. 100% sure about it.

    That is its offical designation because they dont want to have federation ship names like
    war bird
    battle ship
    heavy cruiser

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

    Sigh ill have to sort you minor trek fans out again :D

    sovy = Battleship (Command and control for a fleet if needed)
    Galaxy = Heavy cruiser (Command and control for a fleet if needed)
    Stargazer = Cruiser
    Ambasadore = Heavy cruiser (Command and control for a fleet if needed)
    Defiant = Destroyer
    Akira = cruiser
    Constitution class = Heavy cruiser/battleship

    And in order of building (i think)

    Constitution class
    Stargazer
    Ambasadore class
    Galaxy class
    \
    Akira class - They would all be designed around the same time
    Defiant class
    /
    Sovy class

    Im not going through the whole fed fleet class by class btw :eek:

    but i like the books :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

    so do i, what book is this u.s.s monitor in i should have read it.

    bizmark i think the defiant was built before the akira, as it was seen before any akira class starships?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

    Might be might not be theres no way to know really

    Akira looks like a galaxy though defaint looks very different design wise so i think the akira came first ......Akira was more than likely designed with or just after the galaxy/nebby

    yes but i think thats more coz the akira is more conventional design more so then anything else as the defiant was definetley something new for the fed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

    conventional :dunno:

    15 torp tubes 3 type 10 phasers (points to galaxy era ships btw) hanger bay
    and a very very different design to anything before it other that the NX :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

    my arse that ship has 15 torpedo tubes *cough* non-canon* cough and the design is not so different so it is a still a convential fed. design with a kinda saucer section and rear engineering section

    The guy that designed it said it has 15 1 shot tubes = 15 torps in a single launch ......Enterprise -D 2 exposed multy launcher tubes = 20 a second or something

    Its not that unreal tbh

    Also the ship is all contained in the saucer the back end is only for the torp launchers and a place to stick the warp naccels me thinks

    In the Voyager universe (those renegades wern't real star fleet - helping the Borg to wipe out a sentient race, when everyone knows there is only one consiousness in the Borg ) they would have simply have reversed the flux polarity in one of the Jefferson conduits so antiphase tachyons would have controlled the replicator matrix and thus have each starship would be able to replicate it's self in jig time. (count them carefully and you'll notice there were actually 89 of them (Fabrication by Fibonacci)) In the other series they would have used a thing called a "script" instead :D

    Destroy = escort
    Escort = destroyer

    Same thing different navy names

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

    sounds like they have to different functions though, i would guess here and it is only a guess, that the escort ship escorts things, while the destroyer would kinda like destroy things or something.

    anyone agree with me on this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

    your some num nut :D

    Destroyers/cruisers ARE escorts in general
    heavy cruisers battleships etc are captial ships

    The U.S.S Monitor appeared in William Shatner's "The Return"

    Destroyers were originally meant to destroy Torpedo boats (they evolved into MTB's Eboats PT boats - missile boats etc.) only during WWI did they start to escort things. And escorts were corvettes , frigates etc.

    Anyway point is that what the US navy have called a destroyer for a couple of decades is the size of a WWII cruiser - so sizes and classes change all the time.

    The Defiant class is damn small, crew of 80 i believe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

    aye with a questionable length i believe different lengths quoted from different sources

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

    That is only because the orginal defiant from DS9 was a prototype. Had some problems if i remember that good ol obrian solved when he was drunk 1 night.

    If the defiant was a prototype im sure they changed just a few things when they went into mass production.

    Remember when the mirror univerce teran rebels copied the defiant EXEATLY they had the same problems that DS9 had when they first got it.

    EDIT: I dont unserstand, on blueprints isent the defiant suposed to have a phaser cannon on the top of the ship at the centre (strangly enough on top of the bridge...
    Anyway It is a handy weapon because when the defiant makes a run on a enemy ship and fires pulse cannons and quantom torps then it isis flying under a the ship there are a few seconds before it comes out the other side and fires aft weapons, why dont they use the phaser cannon?
    They used it when battleing Regent Work in the Mirror univerce and they defiant was copied EXEATLY

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭bizmark

    The defiant has

    4 pluse cannons (cannon)
    1 phaser type 10 on the top (cannon)
    2 quntum launchers (cannon)
    1 phaser type 10 in the nose (kinda cannon)

    As fair as i know anyways

    its ment to be either 70 -100-170 meters long.........take your pick 120 or so seems best for a war ship

    Runabout BOPing to a defiant galaxy with some warBIRD named aKIRA

    The Death Star would clearly pwn all these ships put together. End of discussion.

    Escort class is the official ship type for the Defiant, when in actual fact it's some sort of battle ship, or something... Can't recall, so long ago since I saw that info.
