Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My favorite is "does not compute" at the end of temple bar (beside the turks head). Open 24 hours, very chilled, sell coke + chocolate.

I also like "city net" (or something) next door to eddie rockets on dame street. The place is a dump, but it's really cheap (EUR2 an hour all day) and "anything goes".

    :)

Nethouse, you get a free Doodee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,309 ✭✭✭✭Bard

    NetHouse.

... but don't fool yourself into believing Doodee is "free" :)

(actually, the best Irish net café is Websters in Limerick... 8 years ago)

Nethouse is alright but it's expensive and the pcs running Windows '98 are in a right state.

Does Not Compute is very good.

Can't stand places that run that "cybercafe" software. Can't do **** all on them.

Another thing I love about dnc is that it's full of Asians, so I blend in nicely.

What monty ment to say due to managment is that Nethouse is indeed a great Cafe, this is the Eustace street branch. A pc,all pc's are smoking (until march 29th) you can have drinks or coffee, air con, and you get a free me(with a smile) (yes, im easy like my sunday afternoon shift).

/me wanders off to ask for a raise

Worst would be the cafe ran by the Nigerians in Ennis. It is/was on a single ISDN. The staff generally suck up all the bandwidth with instant messangers and the remainder gets filled in by the spyware rifle on the clapped out old PC's.

And they play bad music really loudly and sing along too. Last time it was Celine Dion, I haven't been back since.

    Oh, and tba. Quality signature.

hmm all dublins are bad . imo cork has the best in ireland . sorry but its true

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭quank

dNC is good, bar the computers... unless they got new computers as the website said for the past 5 years... anybody able to clarify that?

Wired is brilliant... only bad thing is headphones wreck your ears after 3 hours using them.

Oblivion is pretty good. PC's aren't the best though.

NetHouse, afair, sucks ass. Bad chairs + bad computers + bad ping.

    My favourite : Wired

    My least favourite: Nethouse

the absolute WORST was this mental place in Clifton run by this ass - 7.59 euro an hour!!

possibly the 2nd worse is Oblivion in dublin - im fairly certain (but not 100%, in case of any forthcomig lawsuit) that the tall bloke with glasses who works there is a pedo. I went in and sat down at the pc he'd just gotten up from and found all his porn.
its funny in retrospect; terribly uncomfortable at the time.

As mentioned by Monty, DNC no longer opens 24 Hrs , it closes at 11pm now :-((

still dont stop me from going there till 11 though :-)

Worst i've been in ?? can't really think of one so bad since so many jumped on the Net Cafe bandwagon in the last year.

I like DNC. Staff there are very friendly and the connection is pretty good. Great for games like CS etc.

I used to frequent Nethouse a LOT a while back, but I really can't tolerate ciggerate smoke. Also I didn't really like the attitude of some of their staff, in that they didn't seem the most helpful, and would not reserve/book p.c's for you for an all nighter. So if u wanted to get a pc for the discount all night lan u had to come an hour or so early and pay the full rate for that time in order to be sure of getting a pc for the night. It was either that or sit there and wait and HOPE that there is a pc or two free by the time the all night thing starts. I guess it was a good way to make extra money by Nethouse, but it irked me no end. That being said, it may have changed since as I haven't been there in a while.
(Nethouse rocked for the brief time that Koopa was working for them though. He was fun to hang out with! )

I haven't really tried any of the other cafe's.

As has been mentioned, dNC are not open after 11pm atm, hopefully that will change soon, as I like hanging out there for lans.

    So to summarise :P
    Best for me = DNC
    Worst = Nethouse

Theres a very good reason why we dont reserve pcs in net house, we used to do it and people never showed up so we'ld be stuck with a load of empty pcs for the night. It proved to be a much bigger headache than it was worth so it was done away with, except with some of our very regular customers

    [edit]

However for large groups, contact the staff of whichever branch and some thing can be arranged.

I don't know about Ireland, but I'm in a place in London, in Archway to be exact, it seems pretty good, and only a pound an hour.

Tried Wired to the world on Dame Street, but think I prefer DNC. Their standards are similar enough though.

It's been a long time since I used an internet cafe so please excuse my ignorance. Just one question do they tolerate people downloading files? It will take forever on my home dialup.

    cheers

yea as long as their not illegal, like mp3s or something. but if your looking for patchs demos, mods, general freeware files and such they have no problem, some will even burn it on to a cd for you.
