Puppy Classes in Dublin?

    Hi,

Does anyone know of any good puppy socialisation classes in South Dublin? Failing that, anywhere in Dublin would be great, as I'm willing to travel to make sure my pup is properly socialised. I can find a few one-on-one behavioural trainers, but nothing that provides a group environment for safe interaction and training.

    Thanks in advance!

Check the Buy&Sell for ads.Word of mouth is very important when it comes to things like this.Try the Irish Kennel Club www.ikc.ie to see if they've any advice or contacts.

Neev stole my suggestion (damn you! ;)). I've seen a few ads ("proper" ads with a picture, instead of the free ones with a few lines of text) in the Buy And Sell. I'll ask around when I get a chance otherwise in case someone I know can suggest one, but I'd say Buy And Sell is your best bet. Oh and maybe check out Irishanimals.ie
They have a bulletin board aswell so you might pick up a suggestion or two there :)

Thanks so much for the swift reply, guys! :)

I've just emailed the IKC, and I'll definitely ask around on Sunday at the IKC show. I'll also nab a Buy & Sell today after work, and have a peek - I didn't even think to look in there, although I have been checking the Evening Herald. I'm sure there must be a few puppy classes in Dublin - I was just drawing a blank. I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything!

The amusing thing is that I haven't even found a breeder yet (we plan to get a Staffordshire Bull Terrier), but I'm being incredibly anal in my puppy research. I feel like an expectant mother. ;)

And I really want to see pictures of all the puppies training. I blame my girlfriend for turning me into a sap.div_346.jpg

Good luck Kalikat, keep us updated! :)

Those puppies are so cute. Who can resist a well behaved puppy ;)

Theres 2 that I know of.One is in the boys school in Crumlin(the one on the left if you`re coming from the village heading towards Sundrive road direction) on Tuesday nights(well it was tuesday nights a year ago) in their main hall and the other one is in Finglas run in the grounds of the new tescos.Im not sure what night the finglas one is on but Im sure the local community office could probably help you with that one.

Thanks, Richie! I'll check them both out. Finglas is quite far from me, but Crumlin is only up the road, so it'd be great if the classes are still going on.

I'd like to go somewhere where they use positive reinforcement only (i.e. no choke chains or yelling), but the dog-dog socialisation issue is quite urgent with a bull breed at that age, so I'll take what I can get. :)

Just be sure your pup has come from a family environment. And when ur looking at ads,be very wary of more than one breed advertised from the same place. It could be a puppy farm or someone breeding purely for profit. And verify IKC reg's with the IKC.U probably know all this already but just in case.

    Thanks Neev. :)

Yep, good points all to be aware of - the puppy farming thing is a horrendous problem, and not something I ever intend to contribute to, inadvertantly or no.

We've actually found a possible breeder - the guy had us on the phone for an hour last night just to see if we were suitable and had done our research on the breed. I was so, so glad to be quizzed like that. Any breeder that was unconcerned about where their puppies were going would set alarm bells ringing for me at once...

    ---the year is 2009---

I've dredged up this post instead of starting a new one.

Does anyone have details of a puppy socialization class in Dublin?
Anyone got info on the Crumlin one mentioned above?

Are there enough puppy owners near Marley Park that would like to meet up perhaps? Sat / Sun morns perhaps.

    Any info welcome!

    Hey,

My guy is 5 months old and I take him to Marlay Park. There is normally a few puppies hanging around and they normally find eachother farly quick and play a way. I couldn't get my guy away from a 7 month old pug the last day. I'll be heading out on Monday - I can give you a time if you want to ensure there is at least one other puppy there. How old is your guy? What size / breed.

This is my guy, he's up to my knee now in height. But size doesn't really matter, the pug was about 1/4 of the size of bubs.

Ours arrives tomorrow - 8weeks old (boxer). Another injection to get - so guess from 10weeks+ she'll be ready to socialize... (let me know if I'm wrong)

A classroom with a few more tiny pups would be best to start with.
But will choose a quite corner of Marley dog park if all else fails.

    cheers

Just got a 10 wk old tiny puppy. Am keen to start some sort of puppy class as soon as he has his last jab. I have no car so I'm wondering if there are any classes within easy reach of Phibsborough or Dublin City Centre?

    Thanks

Might be too far for you but we did our classes at the Anicare vets by the Botanic gardens.
