im on eircom broadband for past 6 weeks using the cayman netopia modem, I have windows xp firewall turned off as well as internet connection sharing and have no firewall programmes loaded.

However whenever i use p2p software i get awfull speeds or none at all, ive managed to pinhole the ports for my modem for the various p2p programmes after reading several posts on how to do this on these boards yet the problem of low speeds persists, whats even worse is sometimes when i have these programmes open i cant browse the internet, even after i close the progrmmes completely both explorer/mozilla fail to load anything and i end up restarting the computer then everythings fine again. Are there any hidden options or firewalls that could be causing this coz its driving me crazy. When i was on isdn i got better downlaod speeds from my p2p programmes. Any ideas?

    thanks

You don't specify which P2P we're talking about here, but here's a bit of advice regarding BitTorrent - this is from the BitTornado FAQ:
You may be flooding your connection. Reduce your upload to a maximum of 80% of your total upstream bandwidth.

If you don't limit the upload bandwidth as suggested, your PC has no way of sending the various ACK bits required to control the download, and no way of sending surfing requests etc.
